The "scoop" on Grand Prix GXP "Brembo" Rotors
I bought a set of front Brembo GXP rotors from Brakemotive that I'm happy with. So I decided to find out if there were more available out there.
Here's what I found:
Brake Disc Brembo Front Grand Prix GXP
Price: $ 69.95 Part #: W0133-1808626 (27398)
http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sk...gs+Best+Seller
Brake Disc Brembo Rear Grand Prix GXP
Price: $ 37.95 Part #: W0133-1808627 (27399)
http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sk...gs+Best+Seller
The rotors come in Brembo boxes. The boxes read "made in Mexico" The fronts and rears both have chamfered holes in them.
The fronts look identical to what Brakemotive sold me and have the word "RASSINI" stamped into the edge, and do look superior to the Raybestos I currently have on my car. From what I found online, "RASSINI" is affiliated with Brembo.
The rears look like standard issue rotors comparable to raybestos etc. Also, as you can read on another post I put up on the rear rotors,
https://ls1tech.com/forums/ls4-perfo...available.html
the W0133-1808627 P/N cross references to a "Win Here" brand Rotor which is a made in china rotor.
So in summary I think the fronts are a superior rotor that actually has some tie to a Brembo quality product. I think the rears are possibly a made in china rotor repackaged in a brembo box. I don't know either of the above as a fact. Just my opinion and speculation.
Also, I had the rotors Cryo treated and Zinc plated. Cryo treating is interesting, because you cannot visually distinguish a treated item from a non treated item. But I did it because I'm very curious to find out if the brakes will last longer and or perform better with treated pads and rotors. I had the pads cryo treated as well. I'm using Powerstop ceramic I got from Brakemotive
I had the rotors sent from auto parts warehouse to a place called Cryogenics International.
http://www.cryogenicsinternational.com/rotors.htm
They charge $35.00 per rotor and $25.00 per box of pads.
I then had the rotors sent to Brake Performance for zinc coating
http://brakeperformance.com/zinc-plating-process.php
They charge $12.50 per rotor to zinc plate. It can be done in silver or black. I chose silver.
I then had the rotors sent to me.
So for one cryo treated zinc plated "Brembo" rotor it would be:
Front $117.50 + Shipping
Rear $ 85.50 + Shipping
Shipping was free from auto parts warehouse to cryo. Shipping from cryo to zinc plating was $25.00 per pair of rotors. Shipping from zinc plating to user would be from California. I'm sure there might be cheaper ways to go about all this, but I went the hassle free route.
Definitely get the rotors from Brakemotive if you can because they are already Zinc plated, so you can skip that step.
I hope this helps anyone considering replacing their rotors soon.
I haven't installed this stuff yet as my current brakes have some life left still, but will update this thread once I do.
