Default Squeal at Idle - Trans Pump?

Sometimes when my car is just sitting idling it will all of the sudden just squeal really loud for about 15 seconds and then stop. It doesn't do it all the time but it has done it enough to make me wonder what the hell is going on. I know its not a belt because I just checked all of them.

I could have sworn I read something somewhere about the trans pump doing the same thing when its on its way out. I wonder if that has anything to do with my tranny acting up from time to time?

Car in question is a 08 GXP with 70k miles.

Thanks in advance.

I have never had that issue. On most cars, I would check the power steering pump. That probably doesn't help but I wanted to assure you that you are not being ignored.

Yeah I didn't think that. But I could have sworn I read somewhere that a failing transmission pump will make a screetching noise at idle from time to time. I could be wrong though.

It doesn't sound like a belt but I guess I will have to rule that out by actually checking it.

Thanks.

Never heard of a front pump making noise, but I guess it's possible.

More likely, I would say it's the torque converter, as they're known to have problems in our cars.

X 2 I have the same promblem. My torque converter squeals at idle and when I accelarate all the way to about 45mph when it locks up.
