Default Traction control light flashed for no reason.

Anyone ever have this issue?

2006 Impala SS with 75K miles.... most of the time the car runs great but every once in a while...

Sometimes, only when turning left, under light acceleration from a stop, my TC light will flash and the car will "grunt" and slip very briefly like something is unhappy in the transaxle. This only happens once in a while. I'm also getting random flashes of the TC light when driving, even when not hitting big bumps. I know the TC system is supposed to do this when it senses loss of traction but it really seems to me that it's more all of a sudden lately and not when it should be. I'm hoping something isn't going bad but suspect a faulty speed sensor, entire hub or something?

Looking for some insight or experiences from someone else here with a similar problem...

Thanks.

Lift the front wheels and see if there's play in the bearing. When mine did it, the fuel gauge would go to zero, and some other lights would flash. It's do it when accelerating and turning right. My RF wheel bearing had a bit of play in it.

Any recommendation on a manufacturer? I usually get GM OE parts but they're soooo expensive.

change the speed sensor and more then likely the hub bearing, they suck *** and we all have had to change them at one point or another

Timken makes a good aftermarket bearing. Just don't go with the the cheaper brand because they will not last. Should be available at most part stores.

Probably best to do both at the same time...

Gm replaced mine for free. It was covered under the powertrain waranty.

My 3yr/36k warranty is long gone at this point.

Okay... on my way home today my TC light came on and stayed on, at the same time my car 'dinged' at me and put the "service brake assist" light on at the same time. Ya'll still think it's the hubs? Would there be a code that tells me specifically what it is if I run it down to Autozone?

iirc, C0040 is the right front wheel speed sensor. A glitch in the wheel speed sensor would cause traction control to come on or make abs unpredictable.

Okay... I'm going to bring this back to the top in hopes of getting more info or confirming what others have suggested.

The 'service brakes' light went off the following morning but now I'm still getting the little 'blip' of TC light and sort of a grunt and performance lag (I think it's the traction control engaging the brakes) when accelerating into a turn after a stop. Sometimes just hitting small bumps or even accelerating normally straight ahead will activate the brief TC light flashing...

I don't know if I'll get any codes because doens't the light need to come on and stay on to store a code?

I just want to be sure it's the hubs (Is that where the speed sensors are?) so I don't spend the $ and tear into it unecessarily. Thanks.

Okay it's been getting worse so I picked up the Timken hubs.

I tried to search but the search feature seems to be acting weird so I couldn't find it... can someone please tell me the torque specs for the following bolts?:

The three hub bolts
The two caliper bracket bolts
I think the axle nut is 118 lbs., right?

Also, does anyone know what the ohm reading should be for the speed sensors?

Thanks.
