Default Transmission Fluid Change

So I'm thinking about changing the transmission fluid this weekend in my 2006 Impala SS, only because I just hit 60,000 miles and it has never been done. I am just curious if anyone knows how many bottles of transmission fluid I am going to need and also the best brand.

Thanks so much for any input on this

You will need 8 quarts of Dex VI (takes about 7.5 quarts so keep an eye on the level when you get close). You should pick up a new filter as well. Look for metal chunks/shavings in the pan because it should give you an indication of how your tranny is holding up. Good luck!

Excellent thank you so much for your input, I plan on definitely getting a new filter also! Did my car come with Dex VI? and if not will it be OK using that?

Thanks

Yup Dex VI is what's in it right now and is what GM recommends using for our tranny.

Dex VI is the only way to go. Take photos of your pan, fluid color, and magnet and post them here for the experts to review.

Changed mine a few weeks back. Use brake cleaner to clean out the pan. When tightening the bolts to the pan, they dont need much torque. Run the transmission through each gear and check the fluids.
