It has to do with the DoD lifters being oil actuated. When its cold its loud when its warm its not. If it warms and keeps ticking then you got an issue.

I would think most lifters would Tick when cold and the oil is a little thicker. I had an Oldsmobile with a 3800 V6, and it was the same thing. It really ticked after the car sat for about a year and a half. after about 10 minutes the ticking went away.

If you post a video that would help alot on finding out what it is. How many miles are on the motor? What is done to the motor? It is probably just something minor not any thing that will blow the motor.

I use 10 weight oil in the winter and it's an average of about 20° here currently. The cars going to the Stealership before my powertrain warranty is up I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced the issue. I've never had a problem on any vehicle with l ticking lifters in the winter before.

The lifter tick is the nature of the beast.

I had a collapsed lifter and had to replace mine however. My lifter tick would never go away, hot or cold.

Here is a few links to my threads.

Just for kicks I emailed Roger @ Vincini Performance about a cam & lifter swap and he suggested a partslist for me but if there's anyone out there who's replaced the DoD crap can you supply me with your parts list and any advice???? The dealer is just gonna replace the DoD stuff so maybe it's time to do what I've been contemplating. Thanks in advance

I just found out that we have a collapsed lifter. It's not worth repairing. Good-bye Impala. I'd really like to light this car on fire and watch it burn, but that's apparently not acceptable behavior.

It's not that hard of a repair but if that's how you feel than so be it.

The car has 117K miles on it, and its' on Transmission #3. It sucks because there are a lot of new parts on it, but I hate to keep putting the same amount of money as car payments into this car and not having a new car for the money.

Damn trans #3,It's yours though right??? My wife asks me all the time why I don't just sell my GXP and get a "Newer" vehicle and my answer to her is because I won't have the title to that 1.

Yes the car is mine. (technically it belongs to my wife) we were planning to try to get another 12-18 months of No payment car driving out of it.

I'm still not sure if I want to try to fix it, let the dealer fix it to get it out on the road quicker, or go with the match and gasoline option.

OK, you have me convinced that I should at least give it a try. Can you pull the rear cylinder head out with the Engine still in the car?

Anything else I should know before getting started. Thanks.
