LS4 Harmonic balancer prices/where to buy/install notes
been looking around for the cheapest price on a new balancer as mine as well on its way out. Where did you guys purchase from? thanks in advance
Edit: Got it installed today. GM wanted 626 bucks in labor, and even after all the steps involved via Factory service manual i was a little hazy on all the neccesity of all the steps the FSM prescribes. i got it done by myself in about a hour, really easy after i broke that ******* bolt loose after that it was cake.
Note: i did use a lift which was available on post.
All that was really needed was careful attention to lifting the body off the subframe (wiring harness, Air intake etc...)I first removed the lower grille to take off the radiator support to subframe bracket/bolts (2x13MM) I lifted the body off the subframe just enough for the body to clear the balancer. then supported the subframe with jackstands. removed the 4x18mm subframe bolts. and lifted the car. removed the lower inspection cover put vice grips on the flex plate.
Ate a power bar then grabbed a breaker bar and cracked that ****** bolt loose. the rest is all standard. put everything back together verified my tourqe. Then put everything back together.
I also found that a pry bar on top of the belt tensioner will get the belt off just as fast as a hose clamp.

91PA, yes all the time that is how I got the discount. Every purchase gets you a new one to use or share.
Don`t forget a new bolt too.
As for the underdrives, not sure how it will affect the computers and/or belt size.

Heres pics of the old balancer i did today, not bad at all. The balancer however is fucked , You can see where the rubber bushing in between the two sections is uneven witht the other side of the balancer giving the wobble. I wish there was more i could do to keep it straight for a long time but i guess its inevitable over time.

Gotta buy one for mine (111k). Just swapped the water pump, and all looked well except for the vicious 1/8-1/4" wobble at the outer edges of the HB. I've done a bunch of in-car removals with the s/c V6's, just curious what the LS4 crank bolt torque spec is??? Thanks.
RockAuto has them for $214 (5% discount drops almost $11 from that, then ~$9 shipping). Still cheaper than GMPD. Check ClubGP's "Other Topics" section for the RockAuto code sticky'd there.

I'm not trying to be an ***, but I think the arithmetic is important.
Just for anyone having to swap their balancer:
Crankshaft Balancer Bolt: use original bolt first pass, tighten to 240 lb ft.
- remove original bolt
- install new bolt , torque (first pass) 37 lb ft.
- tighten (second pass)(final) 140*
Note: there is no torque spec, it is torque to yield.

I did one today
I will attach some pics.. This job by the books pays 7.0 hours. it however does not take seven hours. it took me approx 1.5 hours to remove balancer replace crank seal and re-install a new balancer. you must drop out subframe with motor on it to obtain enough clearance for the pulley to come fully off. i also undid the strut and brake caliper along with the top motor mount to give me the most travel without any hang ups. will gladly answer any questions on how i did it.

As many steps as possible as I doubt everyone followed the service manual's exact instructions. I will be following the different passes involved with the installation of the bolt though.
