Default strange grinding noise when starting

i randomly hear a rattle/grinding noise when i start my car. almost sounds like a heat shield hitting something. normally only last a few seconds.

Get someone else to start it and see if you can isolate exactly where it is coming from.

This happened to me when i had my resonator deleted and put straight pipe in. The weld was shitty and the pipes were rattling on eachother. Idk get under the car. Can u at least tell wat section of the car its coming from? Under hood, under body etc..

i'm wondering if its just the heat shields on the exhaust manifolds.

One thing to look for is on the starter itself. The bushing that holds the starter gear is made of plastic. It warps after time and can keep the gear from fully extending/retracting. This is a pretty common issue with LS4 starters. If left alone, this issue will wear down the teeth on the flexplate.

that sounds like it could be as well. it just seems to do it for a few seconds or so after it starts.

when I had this, it was my torque converter shield. I just unbolted it and shaved off a little on the inside (it's plastic) so that it would quit hitting it. Well it was more of a knocking instead of grinding.
