Default Seal on rebuilt heads

I had a set of 243 heads rebuilt at a local machine shop several years ago and noticed when I picked them up there was a small round metal seal glued to the heads with what looked like silicone. I raised the hood on my 2006 GXP the other day and noticed a similar tag on the heads of this car too. I haven't had the GXP long and don't know a lot of it's past history. Is anyone familiar with these tags. Are shops required to put this on a rebuilt head? Just curious.

Its for warranty purposes, to tell if it has been hot. If it overheats, the center will melt out.
