Default Weather strip near mirror...

The other day when changing my cabin filter I stupidly pulled on the plastic not realising that little tiny foam liner that sits just above the door hinge was attached to it. It ripped off easily. Now there is about a cm or so gap. I am likely going to staple it as there is no way I can replace the entire plastic piece but I'm just wondering if anyone knows how much this stuff actually does. Is it going to get a lot of water in bad places?

I have attached pictures that show the ripped one vs. The good one.

Use cyanoacrylate, aka super glue, probably a medium thickness, and use a activator so it cures almost instantly
