Default transmission or convertor issue?

I've been slowly noticing a issue or hiccup with my 06 mc ss. It only happens between 48-58 mph. What it does is upon full lockup at these speeds the engine will rev up about 200 rpms then fully lockup then slow back down to normal locked up rpms which are around 14-1500rpms. But if I'm trying to get car up to 60+ mph it won't do it. It does it when I'm in roads doing 55mph or so. Here's a video of it doing this. I'd say it'll rev up then lockup maybe 7/10 times. If I'm a little spirited with it, it won't do this either. Just when I'm easy on it driving around daily. Is this something I need to worry about? Or just drive it a tad harder?

TCC clutch slip I would bet, if you have HPtuners you can record the TCC slip RPM and %.

I don't have hptuners. I have a intune. Don't know if that would log that or not. Is this slip just going to get worse? Or is there something I could do now to stop it

Forgot to mention. Car has about 77k on it now. I dropped fluid, pan and filter 2 weeks ago. Put in a Transgo shift kit, and new filter. Also installed a big trans cooler Then filled back up with 8qts of Mobil dexron6 trans fluid. It did this Slip both before servicing, and after.

If you read above I installed a big trans cooler. And 8qts just put the fluid level a hair above half way in the cross hatch on the transmission dipstick. So ya, its fine

Your vid looks like the same thing I thought was wrong with mine - turns out the stock tune has the TC locking up in 3rd gear, so it has to unlock before it will shift into 4th and then lock up again. Since it only does it under light load, I'd say that is what's happening...

you would need to edit the TCC duty cycle and force motor apply current settings, which I dont think your able to do. That would increase line pressure to the TCC and reduce slippage.

i guess ill plug the tuner back in, and see if that is even an option on this intune.

so i take it in the long run, im gonna need a new torque convertor?

torque converter for sure, but its the TCC relief valving that causes the problem, thats the reason why its a #1 issue for these transmissions, and its literally the first thing that dave over at TEP addresses with the transmission.

heres a quote from dave when i emailed him about converters

" If you are asking about upgraded or improved version due to a stock one failing- the converter itself is not the problem but the end result due to the transmissions factory design. These vehicles are very prone to tcc failures. Sonnax has a special TCC Relief valve that fixes this problem and highly recommended to use. Though there are upgraded torque converter options we have not found the need for them in most applications under 350whp when the transmission is upgraded and problems are addressed."

is the tcc relief serviceable? or does the trans need to come out to address that issue?

TCC relief is in the valve body, so yes trans would have to come apart. I would expect the TCC codes to start displaying soon if its measuring too high slip. Increase in trans temp would also be an indication. I'm used to being able to measure this stuff in hptuners for a better diagnosis, this is exactly the reason I never bought a diablosport. Handhelds just dont give you enough feedback for proper tuning.

crap. ill need to save that money towards my future transmission work, and a tq convertor.

on another note, when i got home i got to messing with my intune. it has the option to log torque. it measures torque going into the convertor, and measures it coming out. would this be equivelant to measuring the slip in the tcc? being as i should see different numbers going in and coming out"?

no thats not TCC slip, thats just the measurement the trans computer uses to estimate input torque for all the other functions

oh. fail. this just sucks
i sold a 06 monte carlo lt that had trans problems to buy this monte ss, that is now going to slowly start having trans problems also. just sucks all the way around.
i need to do lifters as one of my dod lifters is noisy, and now need to dig in to the trans. should i cut it and nip it in the butt now and get rid of it?
