Yes that is part of the timing chain tensioner. When I pulled the pan on my 2008 Lacrosse Super to update oil pan gasket, I found the same thing in the bottom of the pan. It's an issue, but most people don't have any idea that it's broken. LS2 dog bone tensioner will take care of that.

It's just a timing chain tensioner from any other LS car, newer gen's use this style that fell apart. http://www.briantooleyracing.com/che...ceted_search=0

This car has serious power, not what the general planned for sure with their coice of parts. Don't know the mileage of the motor but all that boost has to be putting alot of stress on everything. The **** in that pick up tube is only the chunks, must have been shavings as well . That wiped out lobe was right next to that front cam bearing. Just my opinion but that motor is out, no way it should go back in the car without new cam and main bearings as well as main studs and the rods re sized with ARP or equivalent bolts.

oh by all means, if its a full rebuild, replace the cam bearings, i just dont see anything out of the ordinary there. Looks like the pickup tube caught most of the debris, the real story will be the internals of the oil pump for damage, that will tell if any of the material in the pan was being pumped through the system. Had there been something that restricted oil or material that was floating between the cam journal and bearing, you would see deep gouges and scrapes or it would look like a spun bearing.

I'm not saying the cam bearings have damage, just with a new cam and lifters going in as well as previous of wear and possibility of some new damage occurring now would be the time to do this. This is not a 300 hp car(probably 450+), it really needs high performance rod bolts and studs if its going to continue to survive. Just my 2 cents
