Gents - I recently did this with some Infinity Kappa's (similar to JBL GTO) and they sound like crap. Any kind of bass or volume and they clip/distort.

Did anyone else have this problem? My front kappa components do it do... I'm figuring the monsoon doesn't have enough power to adequately power these things, but if it can do the GTO's there's no reason that it can't do the kappa components?

edit - note that when I plug the kappa 6x9 on one side and the stock 6x9 on the other side they both clip & distort.
With just one kappa in it still distorts, with just one stock speaker it sounds normal...

GTO speakers are 100W RMS, Kappa is 110W RMS.
So when I plug just the woofer portion of the speakers in, the bass is insane and tight. When I also plug the tweet in, the sound is god awful and distorts.

It looks like I am going to have to live without highs if I want this setup or get a 4 chan amp. I cut the infinity crossovers off so in order to get it back I will have to re-connect all the wires. Monsoon has really made this whole process a pain in the a$$

They are the 3 way. I tried with the crossover, without, tapping into the crossover board on the speakers. Bloody monsoon lol.
Looks like my choices are go back to stock, live with great low and mids with no highs, or get a new amp

well the rear speakers dont technically have "highs" lol those monsoon 6x9s are lows and mids, from what ive been told.

So I think I figured out the problem..
I connect the woofer + to woofer +, high + to high + and use a common ground.
Well since the highs are a separate channel from the lows/mids on monsoon connecting the 2 grounds was incorrect. If this was a single channel there would be no issue in utilizing a common ground; in the instance of monsoon it causes interference and distortion.

Tonight I'm snipping the +/- from the monsoon tweeter and am jumpering it to the highs +/- on monsoon and keeping the woofer where it is. Theoretically this should give me the sound I'm looking for without distortion. I tried the lows +/- alone and got astounding bass and very tight response. I connected the highs +/- alone and got astoundingly detailed music so hopefully my theory holds true!

I'll advise back here for anyone else trying this on my results tonight or tomorrow.

Got them done and they sound great. Highs had to be tamed a bit.

I attached some pictures.
Sound deadening will be required I think; trunk rattles with heavy bass

You can actually hear the rattles inside from the rear-deck too at high volumes.
A little bit of deadening may help; I'm actually shocked how well insulated and deadened the car is in stock form; the front doors were done excellently from factory.

I believe this setup would be unpleasant for anyone sitting in the back at any moderate to high volumes (tweeters are super bright + the bass lol).

The only thing left is to install the component tweeters up front and the system is complete (for now - may do a custom fiberglass enclosure in one of the wheel wells for a small sub).
