Ok, i'm doing the same thing here, only I have a bad wire going into my rt wheel bearing for the abs/trac control. My issue is the dang axle is seized in the bearing. Been using a sledge hammer and a brass drift to try and pop it loose but it is not moving. I ended up putting it back together until I have more time to deal with it.
Anyone else have this problem?

One of mine was really on there, I kept pounding until it came off. Not sure how hard you were pounding that thing but I would think once that was done putting it back together isn't really the best option in regards to the actual bearing. I guess if it works with no noise you will be ok but when I reached that point I wasn't stopping. Did you spray some PBR blaster on it?

I had to use a 5lb sledge and a punch to get mine out. They were glued in there with mineral deposits and the like.

I used wd40 and kroil oil along with a 16 lb sledge. Yes, 16. It's in there good. I'll rent a puller of some type this week. Just afraid of putting some heat on it.

Kroil oil, damn old school mother. I like it! Did you try putting the axle nut back on to cover the threads then giving it a good crack on the socket?

Yeah the kroil works so nice at work that I found some at a local non-chain parts store.
I was leary of hammering on the nut on the threads of the axle. Especially as tight as it seemed. I did have my son hold a brass hammer on the shaft while I was whacking it with the sledge (with the nut off of course). It didn't budge. Gonna hit up a parts store for an axle press or puller.

Well, I gave mine a few cracks on the nut and it came loose. I used a 5 pounder. Not suggesting it, just saying.

He used a 16 lb hammer and it didn't come off, an air hammer probably isn't going to cut it. A gear puller and soaking it again at this point will probably be his best bet.

you guys must have some serious rust on your cars lol all i did was zip the 3 bolts off the back of mine and slide the old hub out, then use a wirebrush to clean up the crap in the bore and installed the new one.

Yes, I used an air hammer as well. No dice.
I am a mechanic. But I do mostly heavy equipment and welding. I'm thinking its seized pretty good or starting to strip inside the bearing? Sounds crazy but this bugger is stuck good. I was afraid of damaging the differential in the trans with all that sledgehammer lovin'.
I've done quite a few axles and bearings on other cars with no problems- especially like this. I bought this car used and I have no idea the amount of abuse it may or may not have gotten. But I thought maybe this might be more common on our cars due to the HP and torque they produce.
But, I've been working too much to mess with it. I may wait til after Christmas to try again. I know I'm pushing my luck with the weather though.
I'll repost an update later on.
Merry Christmas guys.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

Yes. One side of mine was stuck good on the axle splines, the other side slid right off. I'm guessing the stuck side could have been factory.
