Default Anyone ever wrapped the underhood exhaust?

Like the subject says, anyone ever wrapped the pipe. It puts out a lot of heat, which probably isn't great for wiring/wire wrap/electronics.

You got to search more man, but yes a lot of wrap the crossover well worth it. Just use DEI titanium wrap. Buy it at your local auto parts store or Amazon.

Use stainless ties on it. And wet it in water before wrapping. Can be done on or off car. Heat cycle after

That is what I'm going to do. I noticed it has destroyed the wire loom above the crossover pipe. I'm going to get the 33' length version, just a shade over $20 for the DEI stuff.

Get all the wraps, coatings, and blankets you can afford in there. Its a 'racing secret': use blankets to trap the temperature in the exhaust system. Even more gain if the engine is turbo. Just control the EGT properly, dont let it get out of control.

Good point, I didn't even think of it from that perspective. I was thinking more about the wiring loom (ultimately the wires) as it degraded all of them around it.

Based on my small time in the FWD LS4 world that need to happen as soon as you pick of these cars up:
  1. Install trans cooler
  2. Install shift kit
  3. Wrap underhood exhaust

Doesn't this cause the pipes underneath to rust? Or is that an old wives tale?

They say to dip it in water before wrapping, but I assume that would burn off pretty quickly. I think it would be fine, as long as all the splash shields are in place and I'm in the south, which helps (no salt).

Of course if you continuously heat cycle rust-able metal it will eventually rust. Coating it in an insulator can speed up the process but it would have rusted anyways if it could to begin with.

The trick here, is knowing in advance that the pipe in question is going to rust and fail (its cheap and thin) and needs to be replaced at intervals (like a fuel filter or anything else)... or, alternatively knowing when you have a really thick material (like an OEM manifold turned into turbo deal) that will probably rust but never actually break due the rust because it is so thickly made.

regardless, you want the wrap, the coat, the pigs in the blanket
you figure out how to do it in a way that is manageable to maintain. and you get it done.
