Default Rim width on the Impala SS

What is the rim width on the Impala SS? And what are the rim widths on the GXP or they all the same? I want to run the GXP 255/45/18 on my Impala SS and wondered if I need to buy new rims. Has anyone already tried it?

The impala is only 7"w but carries a heavy (52?) offset. The GXP is 8" on the front and 7" on the rear, iirc. I've considered it but for the cost of a set of GXP wheels i'd rather go aftermarket.

I know the spec says seven, but I think the SSs are closer to 7.5, they almost have to be to fit this size of tire we have.

I wondered if the 255/45/18 would fit on our rim? Or should I buy a new set of wheels and tires. I like the polished wheel on the Impala SS so I would like to keep it. I just want a wider more aggressive tire.

Just buy better tires, i wouldn't try putting anything much bigger in there. Maybe try 10mm wider section width, but i wouldn't go shorter.

I am going to look for used front GXP wheels. By the looks of the wheels the Chevy bow tie center caps are inter changeable with the pontiac center caps. I am going to check at my local dealer.

Yeah, but the GXP's wheels are chrome and ours are not...so the center caps will look like out of place. Contact a vinyl guy, like GrafxWerks, and see what kind of overlay he can do for you.

On a side note, i was at the tire place getting the winter tires installed and was paging through some of their wheel catalogues...man...i wish i had some money I've been eyeing a set of black chrome Boss 318s, and even the cheaper American Racing Black Casinos, but can't decide what size i want to do. I'd love to cheap out and go with 18s to reuse the stock tires, but some gloss black 20s would look SO nice on my ride

I thought of the chrome wheel issue but the chevy accessories site offers optional chrome wheels and center caps for the Impala SS. Which the center caps will fit in the GXP wheel. I am planning on running the 18X8 inch wheel on all 4 corners. And BFG KDW 255/45/18's it should look pretty mean. Now I just have to find the wheels used bceause new they are around $500 each.

Yeah...pretty expensive...not to mention that due to the wheel width difference, you're not going to find 2 fronts at 2 different times that easily. It's not like buying any old set of wheels.

Good luck!
