Default Intake

I am going to add the CAI to my car. I was planning on retubing the intake to get ride of the stock intake tube. Everything looks pretty easy but the only problem is I believe it's the knock sensor in the intake tube. What can I do to make it work?

Could I just drill a hole in the tube and put a grommet in place and push it in that way or what?

Its the MAF....you'd have to have a screen and everything, I don't know of any v8 guys that retubbed them yet.

if you're talking about that black hose going into the tube right in front of the throttle body, that's the crankcase breather vent tube...

you'll want to make sure you put on the new intake tube before drilling anything, so you make sure you put the hole in the right spot...

then, take out the base part of that assembly from the current intake hose - that hard plastic tube piece that the hose clicks on to... that piece will pull/pry out...

get a 3/8" ID grommet...

drill a 1/2" hole in the tube...

put the 3/8" ID grommet in that hole...

put that little hard plastic vent tube piece into the grommet...

reinstall the new intake tube...

click the tube back on...

done.

hose wrong size... sent back... need a 3 1/4" ID hose... and can't find any in that size in the stock-like black rubber -- the only ones I can find anywhere are silicone... $50 and up... so, gotta wait til I get the funds for that...

ah ok. I don't feel bad anymore (that I sold my CAI). But sucks to hear your project being delayed.

I got mine but drilled the tube for the PCV hookup before I realized the 3" was too small. I used a micrometer and it's actually a bit bigger than 3.25, but a 3.5 ID rubber could be clamped just fine. I'm looking for one that size.

think 3 1/2" is gonna be too big.. that's the first size I had, and there was no way that tube was gonna clamp around correctly... simply too much material left hanging out to clamp/seal around the MAF/TB ends... but if ya wanna try it Bill, that same place has the 3.5"... but I think it's gonna be too big...

yeah, it's a hair bigger than 3.25", but a 3.25" hose would be able to flex over it and fit nice and snug... 3 3/8" would be ideal, but not gonna find THAT size anywhere... I was able to find the 3 1/4", but only in silicone...

p.s. - sorry for steerin' ya wrong on the hose size man... don't feel too bad though, I did it TWICE!!! since the 3 1/2" was too big, I figured it HAD to be the 3" since that's the only other size I found around online... but noooooo....

the maf must stay in the same place or you will throw a code. or if you have hpt, you can recal the maf.

yeah, it's still in the same place... and will still be when the new intake hose is put in... just replacing the stock bellows with a nice smooth hose...

Lew, No big deal on the size. I just started laughing when I tried to put it on. I drilled a perfect hole and the PCV tube fit just right and then it was pretty clear all the Vaseline in San Francisco would not help the TB slide into that tube.

I thought you started with 4". I don't recall seeing a rubber 3.5, but I’ll look again. Before I order a new one I’m going to get the micrometer out again and double check the MAF and TB.
