Unless he has an Imp or MC, but I don't remember if he has an SS or a GXP.

I suppose you could just unplug the DOD solenoids. They fail "off" so all valves would continue to operate. Probably throw a bunch of codes though, so yeah, just turn it off using a tuner program.

Drive in 3rd gear all the time and you won't see DoD.

I thought 3 in our cars was really D and D was drive/overdrive?

I have done a test over 30 days with driving the car in 3rd and I noticed atleast a 2-3mpg drop from city and highway

Its not worth it.

I didn't mean 3rd gear, per se, just 3 on the shifter. Anything other than D will disable DoD/AFM.

And I agree...absolutely nothing to be gained by driving in 3 all the time.

Yeah, I wanted to "test" that because people are always talking about it, so I tried it and no go.

in the gxp its tuned so that anything below 3000 rpm will trigger afm......i did hear that it will not turn on in first/second gear.......but you folks saying it wont enable in third must only be speaking for the monte/impy

I doubt the programming in the GP is much different than the Impala, but I think 3000k more times than not would require all 8 cyl. anyway. Ultimately, engine load and tranny speed are the key factors. Two things I know for sure is that DoD will not activate before 24-25mph and won't work in 3 in the Imp/MC.

See...that's about when 8cyl kicks in for me and the rattling stops. IDK. Guess it matters not since we're off topic anyway
