Question Powerdyne

Anyone know much about or running a Powerdyne supercharger? I've heard good and bad things about them.

From what i've heard, they aren't bad if you are wanting to run less than 6 psi. They are good for a bolt on car but if you are wanting to make more than 385 rwhp just skip that and switch to a vortech or procharger setup. The possibilities are far greater with either one of those.

Their a good Mullet mobbing machine. I hear their virtually silent. Pushing 400 whp would be good enough in my book.

not sure, they are not nearly as popular as they used to be. I read about one putting down 450rwhp with a xe 218/224 blower cam, LTs, etc, etc. That was with their 9lb pulley tho. Guy said he was seeing 7psi on his gauge. Not bad for a blower that you cant even hear.

A guy on e-bay makes a high performance rebuild kit. It comes with new bearings, new impeller (capable of producing more boost with the same pulley size), and a kevlar belt. The rebuild makes the bd11(a) capable of 16psi and will flow up to 1200 cfm.

They also have cheaper rebuilds for around 400.00, still a major improvement over the stock unit.

Thanks for the link! I'm getting a price for the mounting bracket and accessories from Powerdyne. That supercharger looks great. I've already got a 95 Z that I look at buying in the spring.

No prob man! Keep me posted on the build from time to time. If all works out good for you, I would not mine doing a rebuilt powerdyne on my setup. Everybody seems to stick with procharger. I have had one, and it was a pain in the ***. I think a racing rebuilt powerdyne bd11a w/ meth on about 12psi should make some nice power. Boost should hit hard with only 3ft of intake tubing, not to mention less chance for leaks too. Being belt driven helps the blower run cooler also.

I'm looking at a 95 Z or a 01 TA. I know its night and day difference. It's hard to beat a great deal on an LT1 is some serious cheap speed. But of course the LS1 is a monster as well. Just keeping my options open. The LT1 Camaro is kind of a sleeper.

A guy running 4.5 psi with a full exhaust on a 97 Z made 409 whp pretty impressive numbers.

Basically no matter which way you go, Just buy the tuner kit. About every blower/turbo kit for the lt1 is junk. Wheter it's sts or procharger or powerdyne. It seems that the vendors cheap out on accessories that are included in the kits, I assume they do this to keep the cost of the kits down. The problem is that we the consumer have to go out and buy the quality accessories that are available to make the kit reliable. I would bet most of us would have rather just paid extra to get the quality stuff the first time. This is what pissed me off with procharger.
Back in 03' I purchased a p1sc kit for my car. Took me about a full weekend to install. No biggie, so i started drivin it, playin with the fmu. This thing was a total joke! Then the kit started chewin up belts, the pulleys did not line up and had to be remachined. Then the inlet hose going to the blower was a cheap dryer vent type hose, that instanly had a hole burned through it. Replaced this a couple times. Then one of my electric fans burned up because the spacers procharger gives you to gain clearance between the fan shrouds and the blower were not machined correctly. The intake elbow always popped off under boost, due to the cheap clamps procharger also supplies. Then had to have the crank keyed, because the blower would spin the balancer off. The the air filter and inlet hose would suck shut at high rpms. I got tired of all the nickle and dime **** and sold it. There are guys that make these kits work well, but it takes lots of money and patience and I have neither lol!
