Default What next with 93 T/A?

Im at a crossroads with my 93 T/A as far as what to do motorwise with it next. It just got to 160K on the stock bottom end, but the top-ends pretty modded, but... its time for a rebuild because Im 'feeling' and hearing the motor not run smooth anymore. I also have a good amount of blow-by occuring now.

Current main mods are: AFR/TPiS heads, Crane Gold 1.6rr's & CC305 cam. The ususal other top-end and supporting mods are already done as well as MSD 6AL and PCM4Less PROM tuning.
Tranny's a heavily modded 700R4 to allow for manual shifting (93 spec), custom stall & 3.73 gears. Heck, the only stock thing on the entire car is the bottom end lol.

The car doesn't drag race, but sees the 4 mile high speed Road America road course in WI several times each summer. I also like to just get in the thing and take it to work and also Power Tour with it, so whatever the next setup is, its gotta have reliability first & foremost.

I'd like to carry over the heads and as much of the valvetrain as possible on a larger cu. & get a more appropriate cam for whatever the new displacement is.
I'm thinking 383, but for those that road race our cars, we spend ALOT of time in the upper rpm's, but would a 355 be 'safer' with better chance of longevity or anything even though there'd be a sacrifice of hp... or is that not really an issue? Also, the cars going to stay naturally asperated.

Any ideas and who's got what (especially canyon carvers) would be appreciated!

Well, you'll find many many people who have high spinning 383s. You just have to build it properly. The key is quality parts that can take the abuse and a B&B (balance and blueprinted) motor. Not to mention having the ability to flow in and out enough gas (as in what O2 and exhaust is, not fuel). I'm thinking your current upper motor bits have that covered

id do a 355 for your application. Get a custom cam though. It will make a big difference.

What's up John. Lekan here. I would first look at your budget and go from there. If you have the cash available to build a stout 383, I would go ahead and do so. If not, a stout 355 can be had for relatively cheap. Your top end is decent. Just make sure that either way you go, the motor is built with longevity and reliability in mind.

In all honesty, a forged 355 and a forged 383 cost almost the same, Sprayed.

Very true. After giving his situation some thought, I honestly dont think it would be necessary to do a fully forged 355 unless he's planning on running boost or spray. It certainly wouldn't hurt but if he's runing N/A, stock rods and a stock crank would do just fine, even if he does plan on running in the upper rpms for a prolonged period of time.

Thanks Lekan (long time no see buddy!) & others,
Any rotating assembly 'packages' / brands that are preferred, or some to just stay away from?
