CC503 users I need help
Im trying to get a cc503 cam for a friend, I need springs, pushods the whole nine yard. I called comp because on the web site it says machining of the cylinder head is needed to use the springs they listed 26918-16. As I asked him about that he then said that they recommend the 26915-16 behive springs for the cam and I was mistaken on what springs to run. He was being a HUGE dick for someone that wated to help and make a sale, and a even bigger dick when I ased why the web site shows a different spring number than he listed.
Summary: I need the correct Part# for srings becaue Comp was being a dick

you can run the crane 10308 spring kit it would be a great choice, the 918's will work they are what ill be running and you dont have to machine the head for them.
On the stickies on the top of this page go to the stock headed cam guide, the second post lists the springs you can use.

Thanks alot, are the comps any better than the cranes? I noticed that the comps were $200 just for springs, the cranes are $165 and they include retainers locks and shims.

Comp Cams help lines are complete idiots! been there done that. I ran the cc503 with the Crane 10308-1 spring kit and it worked great. No machining required for the heads and the kit comes with everything you need. I would also recommend picking up some valve guide seals while your at it. For pushrods if he hasn't had the heads milled or had block decked I would pick up some Trickflow 7.200" hardened pushrods from Summit for $87.

Thats because the cranes are a double valve spring and the comps are beehives. The beehive is suppose to be a surperior spring and handle more aggresive cams without "spring fatigue"
The cranes are a good proven/reliable spring, and fit a lot of peoples budgets better. either one is a good choice. If he plans on going with a more aggressive cam down the road I would go with the 918's.

Im definatly gonna change his valve seals while im in there. Later down the road he is gonna get a 396 stroker but he'll also have different heads and cam so the cranes will work for now. As for pushrods I think were gonna run RR so Iv heard that U have to use a cromoly pushrod due to the RR haveing guide plates. I cant seem to find the correct set of RR for a LT1,I know we want a 1.6ratio and NSA will work fine.

If your going NSA your going to want these Guideplates, Studs, and Pushrods:
Guideplates: TFS-30400623-8 $16
Studs: ARP-134-7103 $37
Pushrods: TFS-21407200 $87 (Only the correct length if he hasn't milled the heads or decked the block otherwise you will need to measure using Comp Cams 7702-1 tool).
I would get the Rockers off ebay you can get them for a good amount cheaper, I paid $170 for the 1418's and $250 for the 1305-16's.

Basically NSA rockers by use of the guideplates ensure that the rockers will not slip off the valve tips at high rpm's. They are cheap insurance versus the SA's but with the rpm's your friend will see with the cc503 the SA's will be fine. However like I said above he could use the NSA's for his 396 so it may be smarter to get them but the downside is the added cost plus guideplates and studs.

so the guide plates do a better job of controling the valve tip than the SA rocker tips?
Its gonna be up to him but THANK YOU VERYYYYYYYYYY MUCH for all the time, help and part number. I think these part numbers should be stickied in the cam/heads section. As you saw here, I knew what I wanted but either the companies were ******** or the website didnt list the parts.

Stock LTx replacements are actually now LS7 Lifters and you can get them from Summit for $125. They may throw the geometry off in terms of pushrod length because the inside cups are shallower than stock but for me it stayed the same. If his mileage isn't too high and the rollers roll freely his stock lifters would be ok to reuse if he wanted to do that.

SA will work fine for that setup if you wanted to run SA I would get the Comp Cams 1418-16's for $200. If you want NSA I would get the Comp Cams 1305-16 for $286. The NSA's could be used again for when your friend goes 396 so it may be a good idea to get them to start actually.

I just did an e-bay search on 'Comp Cams 1418-16', and yes, $170 + free shipping, but all the pictures look like they are roller tip rockers, not full rollers?, is this the case or is the pic just a generic to show a rocker arm.
