Default Vortech Supercharged LT1 Problems. Long but need some help

I have a 00 ls1 and am not real familiar with the lt1 world but I have a friend with a 97 TA With Vortech V-1 Supercharger. The car was the way it is when he got it. So first off we took it out and ripped it up a little bit. The guauge is showin 4-5 pounds of boost at around 5500rpm + and in between there and about 6k is spits and sputters and just falls on its face. In between shifts when your in it hard I was shiftin at 5500 to 5600 and it acted like it had to kind of wind back up each time I shifted like it just didn't have any power. I think its the stock fuel pump but it has the T-rex inline i seen and I wanna say its the stock opti. Also has a mail order tune which I think needs help. Has anyone else had any of these issues or any idea on what is going on. I feel the car should be alot faster than what it is and were wantin to get it fixed. Thanks

Id start with hooking a fuel pressure guage up to it and see what its doing. Make sure you Rule out fuel 100% before crossing it off your list. Then Id look into the ignition side of it. what type of ignition box does it have on it?

whats your plug gap? We run our supercharged trans am at about .025. Id look at running a msd digital 6. you might be expierencing some spark blow out.

No, You'll still be running your optispark distributer, Just the box will give you a more powerfull spark. This is just and opinion, your issue could also be a bad ignition control module or coil, or could even be the optical sensor in the optispark when it changes resolutions. Or even a wire to the crank sensor weak and blowing around.

I agree; rule out your spark, fuel pressure and then I would look next look into the tune.

You should be fine with the stock ignition, especially if the plug gap is at .35. The biggest problem is that inline pump. All that does is dead head the stock pump and causes it to fail quick. I would pull the fuel tank and put a walbro 255 in. Trust me, I have been down this road already. IF it was a spark blowout issue, you would feel the car jerk every 1/2 to 1sec at wot, feels like a cylinder dropping. if the car lays over after 5500, im gonna say fuel or tune, possibly the maf is maxed at this point. Also the opti could be takin a ****. I would get it on a scanner before you beat the **** out of it much more!

What do you guys recomend the fuel pressure be at? Also If the maf is maxed what unit are you guys switching to? Like I said before not alot of knowledge on the lt1 especially on what there is for aftermarket goods. Let us know what you guys recomend for good parts and where to get them Opti, fuel pump, maf, etc... Thanks for the help... One more thing. What should that V-1 head unit produce as far as boost goes? He said he's seen 9 on the gauge but when I was gettin into it it wouldn't hardly build over 4.

Some tuners know how to trick the maf on boosted cars, but I cant tell you how. You could probably get away with a slp 85mm, then retune, thats if the maf is the problem. Fuel pressure should be at 43psi. Another thing to check for is inlet hoses sucking shut! I would only buy a new gm delco opti(check e-bay only buy from the parts-ladi). Go with the racetronix fuel pump kit. That v-1 depending on the pulley should be capable of more than 9psi for sure. Thing is on a boosted car especially, you need good scan software because there can be so many variables causing your friends problems! A aeroforce guage would be a wise investment(depending if it's obd2), if it's obd1 then a scanmaster would be good!

o2's will not affect how your car runs at wot. I would still replace the one throwing the code, but it's not going fix your problem at high rpm.

Also when I say scan, I mean data log. You nedd to scan your cars enhanced parameters such as, fuel trims, knock retard, mass air gps, iac counts, air/fuel ratio(wideband recommended), o2 volts, etc. Then save the log session to a file and post it in the pcm tuning section and you should get alot more help. I don not know what software you have, but you need access to this data!

If you cant contact your tuner, these guages above work well and thier about 200.00. They will read and clear dtc codes, scan gm enhanced parameters and save log files. Really need to know if your obd1 or obd2 tho?
