cyl. head cumbustion chamber size
so the stock size is 58cc
most aftermarket heads come with 54cc (which is 11:1 compression ratio i believe)
is there any way to make stock combustion chambers smaller?
or will i be stuck lookin for a set of aftermarket heads?
if so ill prolly just say screw it get my stockers worked

Those who MEASURE chambers have reported 54-56cc. I have not measured a set myself but am pretty good at figuring out who to trust.
The stock gasket is .049.
If you mill the heads and go with a thin gasket(Victor Rienz/Mr. Gasket .026 or Impala .029) you can push compression up into the low 11s. I would not bother unless it was a repair or the heads were ported though.

Generally $30-50 per head, any competent machine shop can do it.
In fact, any time you pull a head, you should have it at least checked.
Especially if it's been overheated. A uneven mating surface will cause
the next gasket to blow just as easily as the original.
Agreed, the gain from thinner head gaskets (or milled heads) alone is minimal.
It's something I would do if I had to replace the heads gaskets anyway.
SS RRR is correct though, a nice set of ported heads and matching cam would yeild much more for your efforts.
