Default thoughts on fidanza aluminum flywheel

I'm looking at the Fidanza aluminum flywheel and would like to know peoples remarks on it.

The car is a daily driven cammed car, I'm not worried about how friendly it is really, I drive a built car everyday. I've taken the car to the dragstrip twice this year, aka I don't go often and I'm not a serious drag racer but enjoy going a couple times for fun. I enjoy a street race every now and again, but honestly hitting the back roads is what I enjoy doing the most.

The car made 351rwhp/355rwtq so I don't think the factor of extreme power will come into consideration.

Anyone have this flywheel? Would it be a nice part to free up some hp and be a nice replacement? Thanks.

Might be to light and the car will fall on its face on launches but it will free up some hp up top.! Im going with a steel flywheel to help the car pull out of the hole better.

It will rev faster and spin down faster obviously. However you will lose some Trq. It really depends, finding that balance is always fun and the debats always seem to go on for ever.

Me personally I think they are too light, there are some options that are lighter but not too light and I pref to stay in the middle. I have run Fidanza on other motors and they make a good product that does what they say.

Cross, what's an alternative? I'm basically in the market for a flywheel and am somewhat trying to figure out my options.

I have to find the info I saved but GM makes one, and there was another that was not as light as the Fidanza but lighter then the GM Lightened one.

You can also have a stock flywheel lightened.

Have you looked into one of the Spec billet steel flywheels? I have one out in the garage from when I was going to swap a 6 speed into my car. It is a nice piece.

Right now I have a McLeod Billet Flywheel in the car. It was in the car I bought to use for the LT1 swap in my car.

I would just stick with what you got too if you already got a McLeod one.

Right now I've got a wicked vibration at about 4k RPMS. I've gotten the DS balanced twice with top of the line u joints. It vibrates even when I'm sitting still and reving it so I figured if I was going to take out the flywheel to get it balanced why not look into a lighter replacement.

Also, I have no idea where to get it balanced and/or if that will fix the problem. I think it will though...

Hmm.... a McLeod going bad is like Micheal Jackson liking a girl.... I would make sure thats the problem.

i have no idea what else it could be, unless i've got a bearing going bad in the motor...dear god i hope not.

You are running a stock shortblock right? Does the McLeod flywheel have a weight on it?

it's a 355ci with scat rods and speedpro pistons. i don't remember there being weight. i might have a pic of it around here somewhere. it came off of a stock ci motor though...

I see. Was the rotating assembly balanced with the new pistons and rods? If so then I would check the flywheel to see if the weight it there. I've never looked at a McLeod but my Spec flywheel has a removable weight that is held on by 3 bolts. I would expect similar on the McLeod

I'm running a SLP billet steel, I don't think it had provisions for a weight. Great flywheel though, but sounds like you are currently running a flywheel that is probably similar.

Seeing as drag racing is not a major concern it sounds and if money isn't a issue(if yours is still good or whatnot) I suppose the Fidanza could equate to some fun.

The motor was built solid. It was used when I bought it and hadn't had problems before so I don't see why they'd pop up now. Looking at the flywheel would require me pulling the trans and I've been trying to avoid that unless I know I can spare the down time to get it balance and my transmission fixed. Unfortunately I guess I'm going to have to do it sooner or later. I'd hate for an unbalanced flywheel to vibrate the crank in some way or form and wear a bearing wrong...that'd suck.

It will be on the back side, all you have to do is take off the inspection cover (if you even have it on)

An aluminum flywheel has but ONE use, in a roadrace application.

Check your harmonic balancer on the vibration.

Ive used a Fidanza flywheel, prolly not the best for launches, but kicks were great, and throttle response is insane.
