Default Coolant Smell

Usually when driving my car around I'll get a coolant smell every now and then. I have yet to see the car leak any anti freeze though. Any idea what it could be?

Does your winshield ever fog up after you shut the car off? If it does it could be your heater core. If not check all your hoses, radiator, water pump, intake manifold etc.

Mines has been doing the same thing, I plan to rent a tool to pressurize the cooling system and go from there when I get home and have some time. I even had the shop who did my gear install try and find it after I couldnt find it and they couldn't find it either. Annoying as hell

I know my hoses are tight. My window doesn't fog up when i turn on the car but maybe it is my heater core. my heat works crappy but i think thats becasue of my 160 tstat.

I get a smell too when hot and I have pressure tested the system only to find a small drip. I put another turn on the hose clamp and it stopped it (new hose/ clamp). I still have the smell though and its losing coolant. Hope its not another head gasket.

i dont think its you t-stat. I have the same one, and my heater blows hotter that hell when the car gets warm.

it could be the hose's, if you just keep driving your car after smelling it, it'll have a chance to dry. It could be your radiator cap

Its the heater core. If you are loosing coolant and cant find any leaks, I would be more worried

check and see if your carpet is wet on the passenger side, if it is then its your heater core

I also had a pin size hole in the top of my radiator that would blow air out but no liquid

just go to autozone, and rent a pressure tester. Tell them you want a radiator pressure tester. It's around 70 i think, i can't remember there not the greatiest. Take about 3 or 4 attempts to check the pressure if you here air blowing of its not sealing up properly, it seemed they weren't very good for f-bodys, but you'll find the leak

It could also be coolant seeping out of the weep hole on the bottom of the water pump. When it hits the engine it burns up and that's why you smell it. If thats the case you probably want a new water pump and maybe an opti.

I have that smell turns out its a small leak (not all the time though) but it was at the bottom of my radiator core on the inside facing the engine. I found it cause it sprayed the back of my air dam. So now i got to find a radiator
