Best way to get low 10s?? Plans call for NOS btw
Ok, looking to turn the z/28 into a quick street/strip car. Looking to hit low 10's possibly high 9s. Those who are there, what is the best way (cheapest way) to do this. Would like to do a budget 10 second camaro. Im not opposed to NOS.
So far here I have been working on losing weight, bumper supports, a/c heat all the stuff behind the dash, rear seats, racing buckets in the front, front sway bar delete, emissions delete
Im probably going to go with a th350 or th400 with a high stall, 9 inch rear, not sure on gearing, NOS, roll bar, and not sure what im doing for engine yet. I have 15 inch MT ET drags, going to get skinnies for the front.
Any advice, i know it takes alot of money to make it into the 10s but just looking for the best way to do it. i know alot of money is wrapped up in going back and replacing stuff, so im just curious how people got to this point and the best way to do it

Ported stock heads
Cam
all supporting mods
Built bottom end
+ nitrous = low 10's. Even more nitrous = 9's.
More or less my engine, given my heads are still stock, but its in the plans.

I ran 9.8 @ 136 with my old 96 Z @ approx 3500 lbs
TNT 200 shot
383
ported stock heads/intake
small 250ish duration .650 lift solid roller
Hooker LT's with Mufflex 4"
TH400 with Vig 4200
9" with 3.90
Bogarts
28x10.5 ET Drag
drove the car on a regular basis and to and from the track
can a smaller motor like a 350-355cu do it? sure, but it will have to be light.
good luck

So basically to run nines, its better to go with the 383 vs a 355. I have some weight out of my car, but im guessing its just going to be made up for with a cage, SFCs, and the 9 inch. I think i got all the non essential stuff out of the car, the only thing i need to do is a fiberglass hood.
To run the 28 inch tires in the back, did they fit ok, or did you have to trim the wheelwell lip? I have a set i picked up cheap is the reason i ask. I was going to use them on the GTO, but couldnt bring myself into turning that car into a drag car.

nothing crazy
eagle crank and rods
off the shelf JE piston
hydraulic cam could do the same these days
suspension consisted of
BMR k-member, a-arms
Billingsley Racing adj. LCA's and PHB
LCA brackets
QA1's
12 pt Billingsley/Burkhart cage
28's will require a little work to the wheel well lips, bumper cover and the adjustable lowers help center diff.
more cubes will greatly help, but it's not to say a bad as 355 can't go 9's either

That RPM deal, I just need to find some time to look into that again. I'm booked right up 'till Christmas for dyno work right now.

What did you run as far as a fuel system? injectors, TB, fuel pump, etc? Sorry for all the questions, just kinda want to get a list of what i need, and then start buying parts, installing them, and checking everything off.
do you have a link to your old car by any chance? i didnt see anything for it on your website. Looks like a cool place, btw, have to stop down there and check it out sometime. Looks like a place i shouldnt bring my credit card! lol
