the LSX is the next generation of the SBC line. after the LTX
the LSX is a better engineered engine, doesnt have the finicky opti, the head design on the LSX's is superior flow-wise.
the only downfall is that IIRC the LSX's have aluminum blocks as opposed to iron like the LT1. i prefer an iron block. maybe just because thats all i have had, but the weight difference would be a positive, its just that iron takes heat bettter. the LS1's also have aluminum drive shafts which wont hold as much power as the LT1's but obviously have less rotating mass.

High 13's on street tires.
The ls1 is all around a more efficient motor, from the head design and the coil per cylinder ignition, to the composite intake, which helps keep intake temps down. Lt1's heatsoak bad in the warmer month's. Although when it comes down to modding the two motors, the playing field evens up a bit. Lt1's are alot cheaper to mod and respond well once the heads are worked! Ls1's are pricey to mod, but the prices are coming way down and the aftermarket is huge!

They're capable of 13.8-13.9 stock on street tires, quicker on drag radials. Any variables are in the driver and the environment (altitude, weather, etc).
The LT1 has a great sound and responds well to mods.
The LS1 is easier to work on, work with, and find a tuner for. The LS1 cars also have better steering and brakes.
All the other things like suspension, squeaks, rattles, leaky seals, etc are all the same.

from my experience having owned both an ls1 and my lt4 converted ws6 the ltx cars are more torqey off the line and the lsx cars have more top end pull. both are great motors, like everyone is saying ltx are cheaper to mod lsx more expensive but i feel lsx cars respond better when modded. mines deeply modded and im only hitting 12.9 on d/rs with a 1.6 60 ft and a .023 r/t, BUT that is with a stock cam, exhaust leak and bad tune, lol

I've seen where a magazine ran a 13.4 in a bone stock '96 SS. All the others I've seen range from 13.6-13.8. And we all know that magazine times aren't really exactly all that the car's capable of, except maybe the 13.4. I doubt a stock LT1 SS/WS6 is going to do any better than that on street tires. Most would probably range from mid to high 13's.
