LT1 - LS fuel pump?

LT1 - LS fuel pump?
My street-rod is powered with a '97 LT1 engine, and I've been having some problems with fuel delivery so I'm planning on building a new stainless tank.
I'd like to use a LS pump assembly as it's mounting design looks much easier to build into a new tank.
Since the LT1 uses a separate line to return unused fuel from the fuel rail back to the tank.. would it still be possible to use a LS fuel pump?
If I remember correctly, some of the early LS pumps also used a separate line to return unused fuel from the fuel rail... anyone know which years used this design?
Would the increased pressure from a LS pump have any negative effects on the regulator on the LT1?
Or would it be possible to terminate the return from LT1 fuel rail, eliminate the LT1 regulator and simply switch to a LS pump/regulator assembly? Or would I be adding too much pressure?
Any suggesions - recommendations?
