Hey i know most people say to jack the motor up by the crank hub but mine is off and i need to replace the oil pan gasket and i know u need to jack the motor up a few inches with the motor mount bolts taken out. So I was thinking maybe a jack on the front of the tranny? I'm not too sure where else i can jack it up? its down completely to the shortblock.... Any tips?

Stock K member?

Its more than a few inches for sure. I hung mine with an engine crane and dropped ther k member down once. worked good.

Hard to get off the oil pump pickup.

ya its the stock k-member... I was told i only have to jack it up a few inches or so the get the pan off the fix the gasket?

dont forget to take out the oil level sensor. it will break clean off as soon as you try to drop the pan

you have to jack it up until the top of the transmission hits the floor pan or firewall. so like 3-4inches.

oil level sender is located on the drivers side of pan

I would also suggest loosening the K-member bolts to drop it an inch or two for some additional room.

Its a tight fit, but I did mine without lowering the k member, and put a new canton pan back in to replace the stock pan.

Take your jack and grab a couple of 2X4s and jack it up under the pan until it won't go any higher, of coarse that's after you have unbolted the mounts. Then cut two 2X4s and place them between the motor mounts and should be snug then lower and remove the jack. I have done this many times and work great, pleanty of room to remove the pan. I have even used this technique for different cars. I have saved the 2X4s and have them marked for what cars they go too.

i jacked one side and place a peice of 4x4 under the motor mount, you might have to turn the crank to get cleanance, but it will come out

id jack on the bell housing/trans then loosen the mounts and leave it up while doing the pan.

Alright so tonight i got far enough where i got both the motor mount bolts out and the places a jack on the tranny pan to get it to lift but only got it to go up about maybe 2 inches before it wouldnt go any higher and it's still not enough room to clear....

I'm confused on the 2x4 method, so your saying jack one side up then put a 2x4 between the motor mount and its little pedistal or w/e then do the same to the other side? I will try that next time i work on it.

On the lowering the k-member just a bit by loosening the bolts a bit would i have to unhook anything from the k-member?

I tried jacking the motor up and I almost got the pan out but there just wasn't enough clearance! I think the k-member has to be lowered .

So do i have to completely drop the k-member or can i just loosen the bolts a bit to drop it down a few inches without completely droping it?

Unbolt motor mount bolts, lift motor all the way (right before it starts to lift the car) and loosen the kmember bolts a bit (bout an inch or two) but dont let them come out completely. That will give you plenty room to remove oil pan.

alright i will try that next time i work on it, may have to wait til this weekend with xmas and all. I wanna get it replaced and done this weekend because i got a nice box full of parts coming from AI on monday and wanna spend all next week puttin that stuff on. Should be able to have everything but the headers back on and done within a few weeks with xmas and i already ordered everything but a EWP to put the motor back together.

your going to have to lift closer to the engine itself. lifting from the trans pan wont do much at all to actually get the engine at the angle it needs to be to slide the pan out.

if you can find a way to jack the engine up do it becuase you dont need to lower the k-member to get it out since you have a A4. your just giving yourself more work that doesnt need to be done.
