Is there a trick to finding tdc without pulling water pump and balancer???

Well, you can turn over the engine with help while you have your thumb over the #1 spark plug hole, when you feel compression you can turn it by hand and feel with a screw driver or whatever you want to feel for the piston to come all the way up or use a TDC fider, which screws into the spark plug hole.

Just look at the arrow on the balancer. When it's straight up and down, you're either at #1 TDC or #6 TDC. You can determine which one by taking a look at the rockers (pull off a valve cover).
