Default beating a dead oil pump horse

I know this has been gone over a bunch, I searched for a while, but here's my dilema, I have a stock 1994 F body LT1 which I have removed from car for various reasons, its not being completely rebuilt... zMotor had lowish oil pressure and has 75K miles. I pulled the oil pan on it and also the oil pan on a 1996 B car motor I have on a stand and confirmed that yes the 96 motor has a different oil pump which has a smaller diameter pickup maybe 2.5" accross vs the F body one which is like 3.5" and that the diameter of the tubing is slightly larger on the B body one from the pickup to the body of the pump.

So my question remains is there any point to swaping pumps, or is there a later F body pump which has a large diameter intake and larger piping or any other reason to monkey with all this. My plan right now after opening the oil pump up and seeing that it looks very clean inside is just to buy the old $3 GM white spring and install it in the stock 94 pump and button it all back up.

Buelller??

I had a Melling HP one, and it worked great. Just tac-weld the Pickup before you put the Pan on.

Definitely get a new pump, since you said you have low oil pressure and you have the engine out.

During the 1994 model year GM switched from the 5/8" pickup to a 3/4" and used that for later years, as well.

Melling/GM changed their casting for the standard series of replacemnt pumps to a weaker design, so my
suggestion for a pump is:

Melling Select 10554 pump (std vol/std pressure).
Get the GM white spring 3848911 to put in it for higher pressure.
Get a new GM pickup tube, 12550042.

Also you can go to Auto Zone and get the Melling Pump Drive Shaft, it's like $7.

Anyone know if the pickups have a different diameter intake based on what car they are in? I was thinking of buying a new later style pump, I already have the White spring and then reusing the caprice pickup, but if there is a reason the F car has a wider one I'd buy that also.. Guess I should look if ther eis part #s on the parts I have huh...
Thanks for the imput fellas
