Default crack in oil pump drive gear arm

I am assembling my motor and apparently over tightened the retaining arm bolt and cracked the arm. I was wondering how much stress the arm receives, as I'm contemplating its replacement. right now I have a washer on the top and one on the bottom with an epoxy glue reinforcing it.

as long as the bearing in the arm is good it really shouldn't see that much torsional load, but centrifugal force is going to try and shoot that thing out of there. If it was me and that little arm is the only thing standing between you and an abrupt loss in oil pressure I would not take a chance. Maybe you have a little bit more faith in epoxy than I do but I wouldn't put something like that to chance

That is common with HV or HP oil pumps as well since they put more upward force on the drive gear. You can get a longer bolt and reinforce it with a sheet of metal cut to shape.

Just make sure you dont overtighten it and only torque it to spec, around 13ft-lbs.

If it had a crack, it wouldn't go in my engine. Too risky.

yup i agree...I went ahead and bought one. Just curious why GM made the arms out of plastic when obviously the rest of the unit is metal, not the smartest thing
