You can do it yourself if you're competent with a Dremel. However it is MUCH easier to do if the manifold is off of the car. If you do it while it's on the car you run the risk of getting metal shavings into the intake. No matter how well you plug the holes you're still probably going to get some in there somehow.

+1. I would get a used one, open up the front ports, gasket match it, then heat tank it, and swap it on.

I did mine. if you use an air gun make sure you turn do the pressure you can remove a LOT of material in a quick amount of time... as I learned myself haha. metal shavings get EVERYWHERE. I had it hot tanked and pressure washed after I did it.

It's a tank full of hot water mixed with a corrosive cleaning solution. Makes heads and intakes look brand new.

It is simple!!! I used the following link and it came out perfect! Great site and it's step by step. Soak the rags with oil like he mentioned and you will be good on the alluminum shavings. I had no shavings past this rag. Stuff some terry cloths in the intake for precautions. Cake A$$ job even on the car.

I have yet to do it, but I plan on leaving it on the car and stuffing some oil coated rags down in there. I have a site bookmarked with a tutorial how to do it on the car. They use a dremel to do it, but I plan on trying a small engine stone hone to bore it out bigger.

i believe its 48 mm aswell.

as for porting yes its very easy. HOWEVER i would NEVER do anything to the intake when its on the car. the risk of having aluminum shavings drop into the cylinders is to great to chance it. pull the intake. port it and get it sand blasted. then paint it and your good to go. im in the process of doing this myself along with port matching the gaskets and then possibly powder coating it when i do my cam.

54mm

And yes, any foreign debris in the motor isn't a good thing, but you can plug the intake quite well with cloth and the oil then is used to catch the rest of the shavings. And even before removing the cloth, stick a vacuum in there

You pretty much have to look at it like this: Risk some aluminum shavings in the engine, or risk the intake that isn't currently leaking to start after either an improper reinstall or the common issue of leaks at the back from EGR heat.

Port matching the intake doesn't do anything unless you port match the heads as well. And if the now ported intake is larger than the heads, you create some HORRIBLE turbulence right before it (air) enters the cylinders, which is bad heh

Here's the link I was referring to, and totally forgot about till I saw the thread again haha

If your car is still a 350 there is no need for a 58mm tb. a 52 is just fine for stock cubes.

If you do decide to port the intake please take it off or just trash a motor for 20 mins worth of work.

the floor of the intake is acually lower than the heads so gasket matching just makes the angle too miuch.

I'd rather buy a throttle body once (i.e. 58mm)

I used a drill with a carbite bit
