Default another stock head cam recommendation thread

Just like many other i would like to put a bigger cam in my lt1 it has 160,000 miles on it and its leaking oil out of the timing chain cover. It runs great no smoke or any kids of oil consumption. It also has no taps or knocks. While im changing all the front seals (cover, opti seal) i would like to put a cam in there that will make more power then the stock cam but still would like to keep the 5700rpm shift point. Ive been looking at the 227 but it seems you have to shift it at 6000 to get the most out of it.

If you don't want anything too radical the 227 or H/C are great mild cam choices for our cars. I would personally have one custom ground from either Lloyd Elliott or AI. Here's Lloyds web site. The first two grinds would be in your ball park http://www.elliottsportworks.com/lt1.html

Almost any cam will have to be shifted at around 6k or more to optimize it. There is nothing wrong with shifting at that rpm with quality valve train components...hell, even with a stock cam and valve train, I shifted at 6k. The 227 is a nice torquy cam, I wouldn't go any smaller though. Do your research on what cam will suit you the most, and don't be afraid to shift at a little above 6k.

yes ive read the sticky i was worried about shifting the motor past factory redline. Also im on a budget so i would only be buying the cam, springs, retainers, and locks. Everything else would be the stock high mileage parts unless i see something wrong like bad lifters or slack in the timing chain.

Well the factory redline is very conservative. I don't see you having any problems whatsoever shifting at 6k.

I originally went with Lloyds 227 cam and then got called out for buying it ( Zlicious94 ha ha ) so I sent it back and tweaked his H/C version. I've got a shoe box full of his stickers...lol Did he send you a bunch as well? I also forgot to take a pic of mine before it went in!
