Default Help me pick a cold air setup for my project

All the mods going on the car are in my. Basically the only thing I haven't decided on is a cold air setup. I have a 4 inch VFN ram air hood on the way and with that I don't think they made that hood with the intentions of it being a functional hood. If anyone has I'd like to know that would be great but I've been looking into doing an LS1 lid with the SSRA kit. I'd like some input on what's going to do the best job getting air into the motor. Lloyd told me that an LS1 setup would be good to use but I want to see what other people are using and if anyone has dyno proof as to what exactly would work best. Thanks guys.

this is one of the biggest debates among the f body community. personally i believe that cold air and ram air have their strengths and weaknesses but they provide about the same gains. i have a K&N CAI on my car and love it. Not sure about the systems from Moroso and SLP. K&N has the dyno chart to back their claim up. So do whatever you want, the gains will be similar

morroso's is a copy of callaway's 'honker' or w/e it was called but imo a cai is a cai maybe at the most your looking @ 1-2hp difference. when I get around to getting a new hood I'l be switching from a morroso to an LS1 style tho

If you do decide to do the LS1 lid setup, put a piece of sheetmetal to block the filter from pulling hot air off the condenser and radiator.

Another option for cowl induction guys I just thought of is a 96-97 SS filter setup sealed to the hood but open in the rear. That might work ok.

If you can get the functional ram air, hands down go with some sort of ram air. Forget about the debate CAI vs Ramair. Ram air is simply more effective just look at it. If you go with a CAI, go with the SLP twin tube. I was what I had before my Ram Air intake went on. Liked it.

Well basically I will not use a normal LT1 style cold air. I was just wondering if anyone had proof on what LS1 setup works best. Like just a lid, lid with an ssra, volant, etc.

You don't need proof, just look at the straight line of air going in. only 1.5ft in front of the motor.

But what you don't realize is the opening of the hood only has 16 square inches of space to allow air to enter, versus an open cone filter which has hundreds.

I run mid 10's with this setup, Ed Wright ran high 9's with it.

Super Stock cars run even quicker with it.
