180 i believe

all a 160 stat does it make your car take longer to warm up

And make the engine cooler which helps improve performance by increasing the air density.

how does it make the engine cooler vs the stocker with anything past 180*?

only diff is the thermostat opens 20* before the stocker and slow down the warm up process to operating temp

I'd rather have a car that gets to operating temp quicker so I don't have to baby the car as long

lol wow I'm tempted to link my Facepalm pic again!

OK A thermostat opens sooner which means cold coolant enters the engine and cools it down. If this happens more often, then it keeps the engine at a lower temperature. Cooler temp leads to the air coming in not getting heated by convection and lets it stay denser than compared to with a warmer motor.

Meh never mind

you understand once a thermostat hits the rated temp it stays open correct?

stock LT1 running temp is around 200*

how does a 160* thermostat benefit a car meant to operate 40* above that?

do you race your car at 160*?

also a lower temp thermo is not beneficial in colder months/states

The only way your engine will benefit from a lower temp thermostat is by having your fans tuned to come on at a lower temperature.

Then swap the 180° back in. Only takes a few minutes.

A stock stat is 180 and the car operates in the 190s as seen by the pcm, but somehow your feeble mind gets hung up on the stat rating and sees a 40 degree drop from a 20 degree stat temp change????? You are not exhibiting competent ration thought, just trying to blindly reenforce your baseless opinion.

A car with a 160 stat will operate in the 170s as seen by the pcm.

I have cars with both stock and 160 and IMO the benefits and drawbacks are both blown grossly out of proportion by ignorant kids trying to prove they are right.

With a 160 stat the car warms up just fine and blows enough heat for teens below zero, I do not however believe it is hugely important to performance.

i ran a 13.76 with a 160 and a 13.73 with a 180...
(does it really matter?)

i never liked this mod. i always thought that 180 was cold enough for an engine. and the lt1 has reversed cooling anyway. its different then other engines

Maybe it's just my car but I'm running a 180 t-stat and when I'm cruising I cannot get any heat which is a pita but once I stop for awhile then it gets warmer. Is that normal ?

No, mine blasts full heat with a 160 in 30 degree weather. Have not had it out in any colder weather tho.

Like I said I get fine heat with a 160, if you don't then flush the heater core.

+1 After mine warms up it usually sits right at 170. Even in 80-90 degree heat.

Not true whatsoever. By itself, the only effect is that the car takes longer to warm up. However when used in conjunction with aftermarked PCM coolant fan programming or a fan switch, it can keep temps down significantly.

Once the thermostat is open coolant flows. Once it starts flowing it's going to continue to heat up until the heat is exchanged by the cooling fans/radiator.
