Default What STALL and GEARS for my 398???

Im currently have a 3000 stall and factory 323 gears and to me it seem like my low end doesnt pick up fast. One of my buddy said to run a 4000 stall and keep my 323 to be streetable. I only drive my car to GTG and races and few weekend drives. what should I get to get the MAX performances out my car. Im runing it all motor for a while and maybe in the future nitrous but for sure not anytime soon. Help me out guys.

Need to know some more information.

What year car?
Engine peak HP/TQ/RPM?
4L60E?
Rear (gears and a high stall with sticky tires better not be put through a 10-bolt unless you like breaking stuff)?

3.73's are a very good gear to run in an automatic and if you don't drive the car much a 4k stall will be perfect. If you're looking though to run the best possible ET when you race and aren't worried about gas mileage 4.10's would be good and you could get away with a lower stall. Yank converters are supposed to be extremely streetable though so a 4k would be good. Vigilante's are great too. There's a guy on camaroz28 selling a 4k vigilante converter.

So basically 3600-4000 stall converter with at least 3.73's. That'll wake your car up like you won't believe. I'm sure most on here will agree.

In My Camaro I'm Running a 398 LT4 with a TH-350 Manuel Valve Body, 4800 stall, with 3.73's through a 10 Bolt, cutting 1.42 sixty foot times. Its all motor for now running 7.0's, probably 3500lb car, it will be in the 6's on motor this year. Tires and wheels are 15 inch Draglites 325 mickey thompson drag radials out back. Are you running a 4L60E or th-350 or 400?

With future nitrous plans I would keep stall a little more moderate than your friend suggested and do a 3.73 gear, adjust tire size to suit 1/4 mile trap rpms.

If you wanted to run ur 10 Bolt for awhile get a Mini Spool and it would help ur rear end last alittle longer.

How does a mini-spool prolong the life of a 10-bolt? You still have the deflection of a 7.5" ring gear to contend with.

Yank ss3600

10-bolt is a sacrficial portion of an f-body,to put any money into it is a waste. It would be better to save the money for a rear end that will withstand the power,12bolt, s60 etc.
