Default Heater not blowing hot

I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with the heater not warming up the car after installing a 160 Thermostat? The temp gauge runs around 160 and should be enough for the heater to work, however it's mildly warm. I'm in Arkansas in 30-40 degree temps and feel that there might be a problem. I appreciate some insight from those of you running the same stat.

Maybe you have air in your system or your heater core is clogged.

So, I'm guessing that there's not an issue with others? I'm tired of my fiance complaining about it being cold. I'll check the heater hoses to see if I have equal pressure on both as well as see if I can't get the air pocket out. Thanks.

Just because your T-stat opens at 160 degrees, doesn't mean that all of your coolant will stay at 160 degress. If that was true, with our stock 180* T-stat, the car would never go over 180 degrees, but we all know that our cars teater above the 210 mark when hot. With stock fan programing, you will still reach 226* (low speed fan comes on, high speed fan comes on at 235*) if you let it.

My car gets plenty warm with the 160. I'd try flushing the heater core.

my car can be at 150-160 degrees and still blow warm heat.

Either you heater core needs to be flushed or you have air in the system. I too have a 160* thermostat

And a few of you think I'm am idiot

There's also a valve somewhere in our heater system (in the engine compartment) that apparently gets gunked up and doesn't allowed enough coolant to pass through the core. I have the same problem with luke warm heat, but I haven't bothered since my cars been out of commission since summer :\ Shbox may be able to shed some light on where it's actually located.

Otherwise bleed your coolant system (that's what the few bleeder screws are for) or give it a flush.

The only "valve" is for flow control (restrictor) in one of the heater hoses. It is not adjustable. Some people run without it.

#13 in this diagram.

Been over a year since I read the thread talking about it, and I'm slightly mashing info with my old TPI that had a vacuum valve in the heater hoses.

Point is still the same, it gets gunked up and restricts even more Thanks for the pic too, I wasn't sure where exactly it was at. That the same for 93-94?

i had a similar problem for quite some time (although on the stock t-stat, i've never run a 160) and then had to replace my radiator due to a small leak last spring. after the radiator was replaced (and i think they flushed the system too) the heater works fine
