Question Has anyone ever used 2 gaskets on one header ???

Well i just called the shop to check and see if my EGR tube was in and it is, but then he tells me i still have a leak. he changed the passenger side gasket for me sat. he is checking it out right now but he thinks my flange is warped ?!?!?!?! they are jet hots with a 3/8 flange. i did buy them used from a guy on here but my question is this. he told me he has seen headers warped before and he just uses two gaskets on them. has anyone heard of this or done it themselves. i dont want to go broke trying something that will not work.
Thanks in advance man im really pissed right now !!!!!!!

Doubling up (or using a thicker gasket) will help absorb the imperfections in the flange, but they'll also blow easier.
Although, with a warped flange, there isn't a whole lot more you can do.
I have yet to find a shop who can fit the header other than putting a whole new flange on there.

you could also try and use some rtv. i use the grey gm(use to be a tech for gm) and didnt have any leaks. just lay a good bead and let them dry for a little bit. then bolt them on. if you lay a good thick bead it will help with a warped flange.

Just sent you a pm. These headers came from me. They were on my old man's 383 (94 TA). They never leaked when we used them. We are thinking that it was an imperfection from Jet-Hot. Now we have been using the Mr. Gasket copper header gaskets so maybe that's why we got it to seal with no problem. The headers were literately used for less than an hour. I can't possibly think of another explination as to why they would be warped. It takes a massive amount of force to bend headers and the flanges. Let me know if there is anything else I can help out with but I think a better gasket should fix you right up.

thanks i miss understood the shop it is the outer flanges, i am trying two paper gaskets today as i was using the same copper gasket before. if that dont work i think i will try cutting the flange and see if that doesn't release the pressure on them

I would try some of the orange hi temp silicone. I have used that to seal up quite a few leaky exhaust gaskets.

I've been there before. The doubled up paper gaskets should seal, but they won't last long. Soaking them in water for 1/2 hour before installation helps them to seal better. Keep the bolts tight and be prepared to change the gaskets ever six months or so.

Not really related, but I decided to take my buddies metal file (spent a few bucks on it, supposed to be near flat) and took it to the stock manifolds on this truck I was swapping a regasketed motor into. Took some elbow grease but I managed to get the flange that bolts to the block quite a bit flatter than it was. It was quite wavy :\ So I'm glad I spent the time on it! I know that cast is quite a bit easier to file, but figured I'd mention it as it might help you out. Just don't use some $5 file from the hardware store

didnt you post about a ticking when your engine warms up not long ago?

warped flanges will be the culprit of this since the metal changes form when heated up. i used the percys XXX carbon (dont think porno) gaskets and i still get the tick.
