Default 4L60E compatible

Hey I've got a 4l60e out of a 95 caprice that I have laying around. Would I be able to rebild it and have it swapped out with the one in my 96 impala? I've heard thatt it might and mightnot work?

AFAIK, it should be a direct swap.

I believe so as well. You might want to ask 96Capicer on here. He might be able to steer you in the right direction being he has one of these cars.

my camaro has a caprice tranny and it was not an easy swap. the internals are different. i had to pull it few times. the main differences are the valve bodies. im not sure on your application but def. do so searching before you throw in there.

That would NOT be a Caprice/Camaro thing that would be a YEAR thing. Only Caprice/Camaro differences I am aware of are the tailshaft housing and I have heard the TC cover is different, both very minor things.

Technically 94-95-96 4L60Es are each different requireing some small tweeks or changes but can all be made to work. I don't take the chance in trying to hand out information on exactly what you have to rweek though.

Hmm. I'm better off just selling this spare transmission off then. I'll just drop the car off to get the tranny in it built then.

Default You're Welcome

"To put a ’95 4L60E into a ’96 car: The ’96 tailshaft housing and VSS must be installed on the ’95 4L60E before the trans can be bolted into the car. Technically, the 3-2 downshift solenoid should be swapped also, but experience shows that it is not required."

Got a call back from speed secrets up here in monroe. I'll be bringing the car down there to have my tranny built up, but the question is what stall should i go with? daily driven car. rebuilt 355 with the le2 and emissions cam 1700-6200rpm? Talked to Ellis, and recommended 2800 stall? Not looking for something extreme and I've heard if you go too big of a stall, I'd have to feather the gas at a stoplight.

Minimum should be a 3200 stall, 2800 is way to small. My vote is for a Yank 3600 stall. Get 3.73 gears too.

Well bringing this back from the graveyard. I'm looking to just order a transmission off one of the reputable builders over the net. I've been looking at CPT(Carolina Performance Transmisions) just because a lot of the b body guys have used them and they come with a good warranty. Performabuilt on the other hand has an unbeatable warranty, I'm looking to get their level 2 and possibly their 3600stall converter. I'm torn though, has anyone had experience with their convertors? I really want the yank3600ss, but if i get their inhouse built converter the package is warranted for 2 years. Any personal experiences? I'm selling the 24" rims to get a trans and converter. I've got some 22's on my mind anyways.
