1800 lbs with a stock Lt1?

1800 lbs with a stock Lt1? I have a 1985 Mazda GLC. It's a small subcompact hatchback shitbox. But as it sits right now with the motor, dash, seat and a huge *** tool bag in the back it still only weighs 1800 lbs. I want to buy a used Lt1, t56 and a stock rear that I will have narrowed and fab up a four link for the rear. I'd imagine after all the fab work and the extra weight of the bigger motor I could still realisticly expect a 2200 lb car. What do you all think about such a project?
Btw my guess with the car completely gutted down without the motor, tools etc... I am guessing it would weight around 1600 lbs. Just a guess though. So 600 lbs is what I estimate I will add to the car with the lt1 etc...

good luck with the sleeper effect. I say make it as loud and obnoxious as possible. a buddy of mine has an 91 toyota PU w/ a 400hp 383 in it, its BA but the best part is when he stomps on it you see peoples head spin and they'll look right past you at first and then get shocked when thay realize all that sound is coming from that yota.

I will take some pictures asap. I just got out of the Army today. I've had a lot of **** to do haha. Now with my extra time I want to make a budget built sleeper haha. By the way I paid 50 dollars for the car. It passed an honest inspection when I bought it too. So I really have no sympathy for this car. It felt really good to tear the back seat, carpet, headliner ALL plastic etc... out of this thing. I will try to get some pictures up by tomorrow. Thanks for the interest in this project. The only person who doesn't like the idea is my dad because he has to look at this piece of **** in his yard everyday haha.

lol This reminds me of the project my buddy did by taking an old mid-late 80s 2door escort and putting a 289 in it and making it RWD 
I say go for it but just get an LTx out of a Caprice. That way if it's a 4.3L BabyLT1, it's still going to make that lil car move, but if it's a 5.7 LT1 just as good! Should be a cheaper way to go too. I might start out with a 700R4 though instead of working in the manual trans stuff, unless the car is already a manual and has all the crap in it
You have my full support for this crazy idea! If you get stuck and need ideas, feel free to look me up. I've always got ideas for something and a way to go about doing it! (See my latest Firebird CME thread, but a better example was a thread I started in the LS4 section)

That sounds like it would be one sweet/fast sleeper!
I would put a roll cage, or at least a bar in it though...that thing wasn't made for that type of power so stiffening up the chassis for the extra power and weight might not be a bad idea.
If you really wanted to get crazy you could through in a transfer case and front axle and have all wheel drive lol (that would prolly cause more problems than it is worth).
Good luck either way and keep us updated!

Just remembered, that friend of mine also stuffed his 468 BBC into a Chevette as well. Mind you, he had to cut the car in half down the middle and widen it for the BB to fit lol >_> I don't see you needing to do that though!

i thought they weighed about 2300 stock? mine did with a 12a the hot ticket is to put a turbo 2.3 in it and turn the boost up and spray it

Yeah I think the firewall will need to be cut a lot. I think it is all possible though. My dad is really good with metal work. And we have a mig, tig and a plasma cutter in the garage. I've got a partial lt1 in the garage that I can use to mock it up but I really need to get a transmission because I will have to cut a lot for that. It's not going to be the easiest project. But nothing that is worth having is easy. I guess my first order of business will be pulling the motor it has in it now. Btw the car has 309,000 miles on the stock motor. Talk about a workhorse. But a slow one at that.
