You should do the springs too. The cheap LT4 springs are a good match to the stock cam with 1.6 rockers.

yes. change your valve springs. the best bang for your buck are the patriot gold springs

Why on earth would you spend $255 on springs when a $35 set will work fine.

The "do it once" argument holds no merit here because valve springs are a wear item.

definitely swap the springs out. cheap insurance, plus you would be close to coil bind.

Your stocker will bind and may FAIL, you MUST change them. If you have the cash use something better than the LT4 springs. They where designed for a ferris filled valve of the LT4 and your stockers are heavier.

One can only imagine how much more your valvetrain can take. Best of luck.

Heres a cheaper alternative & there much better then the LT4 springs & the price is right, they are Howards springs # 98212. 42.95

Sinlgle with dampner
O.D 1.265
I.D .875
115 @ 1.750
340 @ 1.250
Rate 425 lbs.
Coil bind 1.150
Max lift. .570 This spring was recammended by Lloyd Elliott for running the stock cam with 1.6 RRs, but he told me to get some keepers (locks), but i forgot the Part #, these will drop right in, if i find the part #, i'll post it.

Now there is also this spring, its the Z28 spring by Howards, but not sure if it'll (the dampner) will fit over the Guide boss on the LT1 head, there # 98214 for 27.95

Single with Dampner
O.D 1.250
I.D .870
115 @ 1.700
300 @ 1.250
Rate 411 lbs.
Coil bind 1.160
Max lift. .510

i used them with a set of new stock springs for about 10k miles or so with no issues but it would probably be a good idea to go ahead and change them now if your old springs got alot of miles or you plan on shifting somewhat high

True 6400 or stock tach 6400? There is a difference, no telling how big that difference is though.

Any proof the engine is still making power up there?

You pretty much have to be floating the hell out of the valves, you just don't know any better.

Geez, thats all I have to say about that.

To the OP think about it this way, spend an extra hundred bucks or so and a few hours swapping springs or risk dropping a valve and then having to rebuild a damaged short block. Its an easy choice.

I've gone with stock springs several times with 1.6 rr. But then again I don't run the car very hard. I've never had a problem but it is good insurance to upgrade the springs.

Yes valvesprings wear but I don't think you would have to worry about the patriot golds wearing anytime soon. IF that was the way you decided to go. If it were me I would get some LT4 springs or something similar. Save the money now and if you decide to throw some heads and a cam in get the better springs then.

Forgot to mention this earlier, but you will also see more power in the upper rpm's if you change springs too. Even changing springs with the 1.5 RR's has showed a small power incease.

Agreed, with just a spring change on a higher miled engine, could be worth as much as 10 rwhp, & a solid 20 rwhp with spring/rocker change, thats a nice improvement, but this is with a better spring then the LT4s.

It took me an hr and a half at the most to put my LT4 springs on and its not too much work.......You definitely should change your springs with the 1.6rrs.......I gained 2.5mph in the quarter mile by putting 1.6rr's and LT4 springs......guys either hate the LT4 springs or they love them.....I've had mine in since Jan with no problems and if i could do it all over again i would still put the LT4 springs in........A higher lift cam will require a better spring but the LT4's are cheap if your just putting the RR's for nowhttp://www.sdpc2000.com/product/1249...SpringKit.aspx $37.00.....I used all the stock pieces with the LT4 springs........good luck either way
