Default Difference between 93-97 and 98-02 tail light center section?

Where the keyhole is for the trunk... that black section. mine is all faded, can I just get one off of any 4th gen or do i have to take it off of a 93-97?

i'm pretty sure 93-97 and 98-02 are completely interchangeable, as are the taillights. when i bought my car the bird was faded although i could still see the outline of it, so i bought some gold overlays on ebay. you could do this and save yourself a lot of $ (the stock red was cheaper than the gold i bought and i think mine cost $10)

they have many different colors. And any 4th gen firebird 93-02 will fit.

They all work, I bought a new one from GM on ebay for 125. Prolly wouldve been cheaper to polish mine and get new red overlays but mine was broken

I miss my GTA tail lights I had on my 91 I want to get the 98+! I'd still leave my center section blank though But if I ever managed to make my CME mod a reality, there'd be a license plate there anyways haha

Judging by the pics, the tail lights extend out to about the end of the P on the Driver side and start at the beginning of the C on the Passenger side. So it would seem that they're interchangable (and I can't see why GM wouldn't make them like that anyways). The 3rd Gens pretty much all were (given you got the similar style lights to match), yet the GTA lights in 91-92 only, deleted the center section as the tail lights were MUCH wider to cover up where the center panel would've been heh [random fact]

I like the 93-97s more, but after they delaminate they look like ***. I got a free set from a 99 V6 that was wrecked and made the swap.

I love it cause most people think it's a newer one.

I always love the guy in an ls1 that pulls up from behind me and says hey man how to I make my ls1 sound like that! I say "you'd have to install an lt1". LOL

Whats that is usally the reply.

I prolly need to pull my center section and get it clear coated in the next year. I have no way of knowing who did it or how to get it done again but the airbrushing is a nice touch.

+1 I prefer the LT1 lights much more. Plus at least in 93-97 they differentuated the V6 car from the V8 car instead of using the same parts as they did from 98 on.
