Default Cam Bearings

Hey guys I am going to be changing my cam out. Anyways I want to put in new bearings. Which ones should I get. GM replacement or is there another brand? Also how do you get them out and put new ones in.

Replacing cam bearings warrants removal of the engine. I suppose you COULD do it in the car, but not without several curse words and angry faces. You need a cam bearing install tool (looks like a giant slide hammer).

Why do you think you need to replace your cam bearings?

That aside, I recommend Clevite.

Well the engine is going to be out. The old ones have 155k and I just think it would be good idea to change them out.

JMHO, if you're going that far, might as well rebuild and replace everything else.

If your bearings look to be in good shape (no gouging, pitting, etc.) I would not hesitate to reuse them. Lots of people do cam installs at 150k plus with good luck. You just need to make ABSOLUTELY SURE you do not scar or nick the bearings during install, as this is one of the root causes for spun bearings after cam installs.

It's up to you on whether or not you want to take the gamble. I'd go for it and reuse them. Easier to maintain a clean environment with the engine out of the car.
