Default cam choices

witch cam would you go with? why?
Dam i messed up i ment.

Elliot 230/234 .592/.592 111 LSA - 2200-6400 RPM
Choppy idle. Good mid range and top end power. Minimum 2800 stall and 3.42 gears for
F and Y body. Minimum 3200 stall and 4.11 gears for B body. Comparable to Comp 306 cam.

OR

Ai 230 / 238 - .575/.575 - 110 LSA - 2300-6400rpm
This is our largest stock long-block cam for M6 cars. Excellent for rebuilds with 11:1 compression. Lopey idle, good drivability with gears & tuning, and excellent mid-range with peak power at approximately 6300rpm. Properly tuned w/ supporting modifications, M6's typically produce 350-365rwhp SAE corrected

Car is a weekend and strip car, not a DD.
will be getting ported heads and leaving the stock block alone for now. later in the far futur will consider stroker but not now. Right now just getting heads pp, i already got all the supporting mods. looking for 450whp or somewhat close but most of all trying to get some really fast times in the 1/8th

I like Lloyds myself simply because that's pretty much the same one I'm running only on a 109 lsa.

Not to be a pesimist here but there is a lot you need to answer before you will get good feedback:
1) What are your goals?
2) What supporting mods are you doing (383, ported heads, rr's, cai, etc...)?
3) What are you looking for a good powerful DD or a strip car or a middle of the road both or are you looking for some road racing?

That being said I like lloyd's cam as it has a better range and good topend. However remember if you are staying stock bottom end then you might want to consider beefing it up a little for longevity.

PS: Also remember to fully utilize the power curve of those cams you need to beef up the bottom end as the stock setup ain't gonna last long spinning up past 6K.

Remember that with that much lift you will need new springs and pr's. Also, I'm no expert but I doubt you will see 450rwhp with either one of those cams and a stock bottomend plus stock heads with mild pp work. To get those numbers you are gonna need a really good thorough port job by an expert like Lloyd and those heads gotta flow really high for that to happen.

I say go with Ai, but honestly, I think you'll be happy with either, both should make great cam choices.

Where are you getting your ported heads from? I say get your heads from either AI or Lloyd and the matching cam to go with it.

I know everyone likes to call them custom cams but they really aren't. They each have a selection of cams that they know work well. A custom cam would be if you called up and gave them the specs for your motor and they came up with new cam specs just for your motor.

Assuming the cam lobes are similar ... see attached.

Note that the longer duration cam makes more power up top
while the lower duration cam has more torque below 5000rpm.
Keeping in mind that 6500rpm is pushing your luck on a stock bottom end.
The 230/238 also has more overlap, which will tend to make it "chop" a little more.

* Illustration only, your HP numbers may vary.

Dyno sim.
I don't have those cams, or spare cars to put them in and dyno at the moment.
The goal being to provide an idea of what the power curve would look like based on the limited information provided.
