if compression is solid in all cylinders and she runs well i dont see why not.

would i spray it with nitrous probably not, but i would put a cam in a 200k mile LT1 with little wory as long as it runs well now.

no way. The heads would need rebuilt for sure, comprssion test wont tell you if you need valve seals. If you throw a cam in it will take the seals out and you will burn oil like a mother. And if you rebuild the heads the botom end should really be looked at too.

What you need to do is just get some longtube headers, summitracing.com has pacesetter lt's starting at like 380 and the ory for about 150, a cold air intake, and maby a pcm tune (madz28.com). That will wake her up real good.

^ I don't know of any cam that will use stock springs unless you have something custom ground. At that point you are going to be changing the valve springs too. It would be absolutely retarded not to swap the valve seals at that point.

Personally if I were going LSX in the near future, I wouldnt waste money on a 190k mile LT1 shortblock.

Very good point.

If you do decide to keep the LT, as long as your oil pressure is still good and you aren't getting blow by, I'd do it. Worst case senario it blows up (spins a bearing) then you through in your LS motor and sell the LT cam.

I'd do it as long as you had decent oil pressure, good even compression, and the cam bearings don't look scored or discolored.

i was going to do it to my 157k mile stock long block. but when i started tearing it down i saw that all the cam bearings were bad and im sure the connecting rod bolts are on there last leg... its taking a chance. if you can pull it and refresh the shortblock.
