The specs on the hot cam with 1.6's is .550/.550 i believe which would make it .584/.584 with 1.7's if im doing the math correctly right?

Nope, .525" with 1.6's for both intake and exhaust. As long as you upgraded from the LT4 valve springs it should work out well for you giving you up to 10rwhp more. The 1.7's will also give you around 2* more duration also.

had that same setup on my car lt4 hot cam w/ scorpion 1.7 rr's i would constantly pull cc306 and gm847 cars no problem and i had stock heads. never dyno'd it or ran it at the track w/ that setup but it sure did perform great on the street. make sure you get springs that will support the gross lift.

Technically you could run it on any cam, but you'd have to run springs that can handle the lift. The lift on a CC306 w/ 1.7rr's would be .578"/.612". You'd have to get springs rated for .625-.650 lift.

I have the comp 987 springs but I can't find exactly what lift they'll handle up to. I think it's around .600.

Also if you are running on unported factory heads you won't see much if any of a gain by increasing lift more than the 1.6's would be giving you. Stock heads don't flow well over .550" or so lift, so its kind of a waste of money and puts extra stress on the valvetrain.

They will increase the "dwell" time that the valve is open at .550" lift.

hmmm, well I apologize if I've thrown this thread off course from the LT4 cam. I have to ask tho...I'm running ported stock heads with stock valves and 1.6 rockers with the 306...wonder what gains I would see, if any, by going up to the 1.7's.

What are your other mods? I am willing to bet that your money would be better spent optimizing your set up in other areas.
