I broke my clutch in for a full 500 easy miles and now it drives like butter.

As for the engine, it needs a wide range of RPMs to break in properly. For example, 1000 miles of 60 MPH cruising on the highway is not a good way to break it in. Drive it around town, starting and stopping, slowly taking the RPMs up and work your way through a few thousand miles as if you were stretching out a rubber band.

When you break the clutch in. just don't drive the car heavy, trust me. You'll regret it later by having to swap a PP or new disc. IIRC, I never shifted about like 2500 until a like 200 miles, and then like 3000 at 300 miles, and 3500 at 500 miles. I didn't go WOT shifting until like 1k miles. (RPMs may not be completely accurate, but you get the idea) My clutch is very smooth, unlike my first PP/Disc I was on, I gave it hell too soon and it chattered like no other..

As far as the engine break-in. You want the motor to see every range of RPMs

I would break in the engine properly, regardless of what it does to the clutch, breaking in the engine and seating the rings is paramount.

^^ agreed getting the motor broken in properly is much more important than the clutch and that can easily be replaced for fairly cheap (compared to the motor)

you can do both....after you get the motor running and COMPLETELY check everything during the 1st 15 min. change oil/filter and drive at varied RPM's. Take car up to 3500-4500 RPM's in gear and let the motor brake by letting off gas. Do this accelerate/decelerate thing at varied RPM's. This will have no negative effect on clutch.

basically just don't bitch slap the car for 500 miles but do accelerate up to 5k-5500roms in the early stages.

The powergrip HD doesn't require any break in, and you should break in the engine however your engine builder tells you to.
