Default Question about cc503 and stock heads

Does anything need to be done to the heads to support a cc503 cam? According to comp cams website it requires machining on cylinder heads.

Lots of people are running the 503 on stock heads with no problems. There is a wealth of info on-line about the 503 cam. Just gotta do a little research.

I love that cam i my car. You don't do anything to the heads except put in new valvesprings.

No you don't need headwork to run the 503. I've ran the 306 with untouched heads, no problems. You'll be fine.

thanks.
I read a lot about the cam, and read the cam guide. I was just double checking sense right on the website it says its "required". http://www.compcams.com/Cam_Specs/Ca...csid=1107&sb=2

What kinda hp numbers do you think your putting down? I'm starting my 503 swap in May and just curious. Not trying to hi-jack the thread.

I would be curious to see the difference in hp numbers on a stock vs worked head with the 503 cam.

you dont NEED them worked, but as with any cam swap porting the heads will give you much better gains in the end than restrictive heads

I ran that cam with stock heads for awhile and it was a great setup. No head work is required but it's always beneficial in the power department.

Another CC503 w/ stock heads here...I love my set up. Lots of power everywhere. You won't go wrong with that cam, just be sure to get some quality valve springs and you'll be good.

I have:
CC503
Crane 10308 dual valve spring kit
Comp 1.6 NSA 7/16" Pro Mags
TF guideplates
ARP 7/16" rocker arm studs
TF 7.2" chromemoly pushrods

Match that up with LT headers, exhaust, and a CAI and you'll have a nice cam-only performer.

No dyno numbers yet. MadTuner mail order tune. I did manage to trap 87.20mph in the 1/8 mile.

Correct me if im wrong but, you can use all these same parts for the CC306 cam right? Except im thinking about going with pac 1218 springs and CC pushrods part #7940-16.

Yes absolutely. The 1218's are awesome springs, good choice. Just grab the TFS pushrods since they are cheaper IIRC.

Does it matter wether I get 7/16 stud or 3/8 stud rockers?

EDIT: nevermind, I did a search and 7/16 is the way to go.

Yeah, 7/16" is the way to go.

And as stated above, get the TFS pushrods. They are only 87 bucks from Summit.
