Default Help me choose a cam!

Need help choosing a cam for my 383 build. I have no idea which way to go. Obviously I'm going to go with a custom grind either way. Looking for something STREETABLE, nothing insane. Any suggestions or thoughts are appreciated

Why ask a bunch of bench racers rather than going to a professional?

I would ask Lloyd to spec you a cam that drove like a mid 220's intake duration would in a 350. That way you have something that drives very reasonable which is what you want but you have something that will compliment the 383 pretty well and move out good. Make sure to tell him your going to run an SS3600 and that way he will hook you up with something perfect for the new setup.

Believe me guys I am asking the pro's as well. I'm not going to just jump on something someone posts up on here. Just thought I would inquire to those that may have gone the 383 route and get some feedback. I've already got a message into Lloyd.

Hey man, with a 383 I'd definitely go with a healthy sized cam. You don't want to build it and then be pissed you didn't go bigger. I'll pm you the specs of mine and see what you think. Lloyd suggested it and I got it with my LE2 heads from him. It's going in my 355 but I plan on shifting at around 6800-7000. He may want to do something different with you though. Good luck man.

I appreciate the concerns and wonders about my last set up,, but I'm not going to get into it on here. Just know everything is being taken care of and the cars going to be a beast here soon

Well you know how I feel about huge cams...I run a 226/234 .568" on a 111 in my 383 and I've yet to see anyone with a HR cammed street car of any other duration out mph me...The cam makes nice power and torque at somewhat lower rpms....I'm all done by 63-6500 rpms and I think thats one reason why my motor has 14 years and over 52,000 flawless miles on it...I have no secrets and am no lightweight at over 3600 lbs...Its all in matching the combo of heads, cam, rear gear and converter...

Very true. Nice times btw.

To flip what you just said...don't you think that , with your set up, that if you went with more duration and higher lift AND matched your gear, tire(, and stall if A4) that you could ET better?

I thougth you just put a cam and heads in your car this winter? So your building the first Camaro with a 350 and 383? That should run low 8's.

Thanks and to answer your question, yes I think if I wasnt so concerned with what I consider streetable I could add a bit of cam, gear and converter and drop my ETs further...If I went with something in the 240 range, 4.30s/4.56s, and a 4400-5000 converter I'm sure I'd have a very wicked ride, but it wouldn't be something I'd want to drive 360 miles round trip to Ocean City, MD every year and to work, etc...I wouldn't go much more on the cam's lift as Joe Overton and Eric Bradby told me a long time ago that the ported stock LT1 heads, even with the 2.00/1.56 valves that I run, just won't support much more than .570" lift with any efficiency...As well as my combo works I never questioned them...

I'm close on the MPH. My cam isn't much bigger than yours.

Well, you just helped my point then...You don't need a big cam to go fast...Anything over 120 mph in an N/A LT1 is impressive, imho...Your mph kicks ***...
