Default What forged pistons n rods

and would it be dumb to just put the forged pistons / new rings / rods and all new rod/crank bearings in without machining the block.

What does machine work for a 355 average?

Will be keeping the stock crank.

Thanks

I've always liked the SRP pistons but I'm running speed pro's with eagle I beam rods for less weight than the H beams with a stock crank. My bill at the machine shop was $850 but that didn't include the pistons and rods. My builder said he would not be afraid to throw more than 600 hp at what I have with a 100 shot or more of nitrous. Here's what the $850 was for.

Deck block twice because I miscalculated
line hone
hone cylinders
Flycut pistons
polish crank
Clevite H rod and main bearings
ARP main studs
Speed pro moly rings (file fit)

Doing a 355 using the stock crank is easily the most cost effective way to go. If you wanted to avoid more machine costs it would be ok to stay with the stock sized pistons. I would suggest at least honing the cylinders though to make sure they are cleaned up so you don't blow and oil by. Any time you take the pistons and stuff out you should hone the cylinders to clean them up.

Thank you. Who would you recommend buying the hard parts from? I guess Larry or AI could hook me up.

If you value reliability, you'll have the block bored.

A line hone is a great idea to help the crank spin high rpm's easier. You can get by with just honing the cylinders but you need to make sure they check clearances so you can avoid pistons slapping around. You can get the speed pro pistons from summit and the rods too but look around for the best price. Remember too you'll need to spend money to make sure it's balanced. It'd be a shame to forget that and have nasty vibrations.

My motor is at the machine shop right now getting bored over for a 355, it's going to be right about $800 for the work which includes all the works incklude assembling the bottom end. I went with some forged speed pro pistons and some forged ESP H beam rods, I'll be running a 150 shot on top of that so make sure you tell your machinist that so they can gap the rings correctly. I just told them about this and they said it's a need to know kind of thing. Tell them your plans even if it's a couple months down the road that you want to add or your going to add something soon after.
